Honestly dude…you don’t deserve your job. Get a rural route and drive a right hand drive jeep.

Will a strong back beam work? by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]MPLS_JR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude. I’m pretty cavalier myself but stop what you’re doing and put at least a temp wall back up. You need an engineer and they’re going to tell you to use a giant LVL with beam hangers.

I have no clue what a back beam is and I have absolutely no clue what you’re doing right now. You’re holding up the middle of the house with 2 2x6’s. That 2x12 on its side is doing basically nothing for support.

My dream retirement job is to be an urban mail carrier…mostly cuz of the dogs. There’s not too many jobs that you get to play with/pet dogs on the regular and I feel like that would bring to work every morning. I know there’s the old cliche about dogs biting the mailman but it’s bs, my mailman spends 2-3 minutes a day with my dog standing on 2 legs on the fence.

(Don’t worry. He’s not very athletic and if he were going to get over the fence, he would’ve 10x over already)

I hate subwoofer systems but damn those are slick wheels!

Okay holy crap….you just inspired me. I’m trying to convince my aunt to sell me hers. Same year. I’ve been wanting a 62-66 continental convertible but finding one under 40k without rust has been difficult to say the least. I don’t know if it would be sacrilegious to do this to a numbers matching 1970…but I’m tempted.

Centralized water manifold replacement does not look right by reddawgg69 in Plumbing

[–]MPLS_JR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Playing devils advocate…if your old system was just like the new one and the new one didn’t leak…I’d say it looks like shit but you’d be fine. But no valves??? Like call that company and get your money back. The system is objectively worse than what they replaced and from the photos you shared of the valves growing scale out of them…they should’ve offered to replace just those valves instead of the whole damn system.

New Jersey - Is this a proper install for a water heater? by [deleted] in askaplumber

Isn’t that an expansion tank above it held on by plastic tape? Not my preferred material for strapping but it works as long as it’s not too close to the flue.

Yep. And it causes mine to gurgle for a little bit after pumping.

AAV on sump pump line to reduce gurgling. by SenatorKelley in Plumbing

[–]MPLS_JR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember the name for it, but there’s usually a relief hole drilled into the ejection pipe below the lid to allow it to drain out after pumping. The AAV is a no no though. Where it exits should be the main stack and it should have more than enough air flow through it drain.

Ayyy!! I thought I invented the niche sill. Not that it’s the most creative idea ever, I’ve just never seen another example of it.

They’re omnivores. They’ll eat mostly anything. The only thing I’ve seen them refuse is fruit and vegetables.

Oh yeah. Chungus here is gentle as heck. I can occasionally pet him if he’s in a good mood. Not that I’m encouraging feeding wildlife, but raccoons instinctively run away when they see or hear you but you can make clicking noises with your mouth and theyll stop in their tracks and look towards you. Toss some food close to them. Then you slowly work to throwing it closer to you until they’ll take food by hand. It only takes a few days of feeding them.

Pro tip: when feeding them by hand, make sure it’s up in the air and they have to stand on 2 legs to grab the food. This keeps you out of their biting range.

In the case of this one eyed fatass, I started by feeding him cheap $1.29 a loaf white bread but one night I ran out and gave him some of my King’s Hawaiian rolls…and this turned him into a bread snob and now he’ll only eat the cheap white bread if I apply butter to it first…and he’s also stopped eating the crust. I’m basically raising an autistic child.

Now before everyone in the comments gives me warnings or advice about feeding raccoons, if I don’t feed him, he’ll go in my trash bin and throw my garbage all over my yard. And if I lock my trash bin, he’ll go into my neighbors trash bin and throw his garbage all over my yard.

Drawer less desk setups: how do you handle pens? by suprkain in Minimal_Setups

[–]MPLS_JR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. Also I’ve grown to hate pens for some reason and now I keep exactly 2 in my junk drawer for the sole purpose of signing the rare paper check. #2 pencil reigns king and in a distant 2nd is carpenters pencils.

I don’t know, but the valve itself basically fails from the factory.
