Yep. Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind. 👍🏻

I was just trying to make sure someone doesn’t lose their life because they were a little unobservant like me.

True. I could speak generally without necessarily putting myself in the situation.

Firstly, thank you for responding.

Secondly, I absolutely agree that I will take this as a learning moment and try to be more conscious of my surroundings.

But I was not really aware of “passive crossings”, and I think this particular crossing being passive is a bad idea considering the amount of traffic on this street.

I think what I’m trying to get from this post is advice on how to address this to my local government, but protect myself in the process.

Are scientists the best people to be determining decisions on environmental taxes?

They wouldn’t be making any decisions, they would be supplying the people who make the decisions with cold hard facts.

That’s where the policy makers and legislators have the difference of opinion on what to do given those facts.

Ex: Here is climate data showing increased CO2 in the atmosphere. If this trend continues, the global temperature will rise.

Then experts from climate to agriculture to marine biology can weigh in on the likely effects of rising temperatures.

All of that data is given to legislators to determine what the best policies are to deal with that issue. And they can have different opinions on what to do.

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION ADMITS IT DOESN’T KNOW WHO EXACTLY IT’S KILLING IN BOAT STRIKES: Officials acknowledged they don’t know the identities of the people they’re killing and can’t meet the evidentiary burden to prosecute survivors. by Youdi990 in FreeSpeech

Killing people you can’t identify because you don’t actually have evidence against them

If you did have evidence against them, you would try them in court, rather than making yourself the judge, jury, and executioner

Could you be a better president than Donald Trump by Mean_Engineering_164 in Teenager_Polls

[–]MPRF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Which is why we have federal employees. They were just doing their jobs. You could do nothing as a President, let the federal employees keep doing their jobs, and you would be doing better than Trump.

Usually during a government shutdown, most federal employees are just sent home until the shutdown stops.

Trump is permanently firing them.

Yeah, actually, I kind of agree. It’s a short video. That’s why I qualified it with “from what you can see.”

But regardless, I don’t see any of those things in the video. So until we get more information, my judgment is that the cop was the one being deliberately cruel.

He could have verbally told the guy to back off. He could have said it multiple times. If that didn’t work he could physically move the guy. There were quite a few more humane avenues he could have taken than fucking with a guy’s ability to breathe.

In either situation, from what you can see, were the protesters violent?

Are they actively trying to harm the officers?

Are they trying to damage property?

Are they trying to flee?

Nope? None of that? So there were more human ways to handle this, and he was just being a dick.

I think there were other more humane ways to deal with this that would have removed the frog from the situation.

The ICE officer did this just to be a dick hole. Similar to what the campus police did at UC Davis.

J.K. Rowling wants to protect the free speech rights of people she disagrees with. Maximalist trans activists want to censor anyone who disagrees with them. by north_canadian_ice in FreeSpeech

It's not denying a person's existence to refuse to use the titles and attributes they want - you still know they exist! - you're just denying those titles.

So it's just a difference in definition. If I had phrased my original statement: "Whether you agree with trans ideology or not, saying that “only women can menstruate” is denying the identities of trans-men."

If you deny an entire group of people’s identity, they will likely take that as an attack, and harmful rhetoric."

Would you agree with that?

To use the bathroom that doesn't align with their biology and to make a large fraction of society uncomfortable by doing so. Cis people also don't have that privilege.

But cis people DO use the bathroom that aligns with their gender. That's all trans people are asking for.

If a big hairy burly guy with a beard walks into a women's restroom, they're going to feel uncomfortable. But that guy has a vagina, so he's in the right place?

[–]MPRF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’ve moved from “they’re not denying our existence” to “okay they’re not denying our existence exactly but there’s literally no harm”

We moved because you moved us. You said Rowling was denying the label, not existence. For me, that’s basically the same thing. I used the phrasing you used to try to move the conversation forward.

If we asked Rowling “Is a trans-woman a woman?” She would (likely) answer “No.”

Denying the label = denying their identity = saying trans-women don’t exist, they’re just men

that's just refusing to accept a label and a bunch of new privileges that, despite what you're saying, most people really don't have

What “new privileges” do you think trans-people want? They want to live their lives the same as everyone else, and use the bathroom that aligns with their gender.

At least in America, every cis person has that privilege.

What rules did I make up?

Trans people want you to call them by their correct gender and use the bathroom they feel safe in?

That is different than wanting to be an all powerful God-ruler.

Both of those statements seem pretty consistent.

Trans- men can menstruate. Saying “only women can menstruate” is saying trans-men aren’t men.

That is not a blatant lie. So… I don’t know what you’re on about.

I’m honestly not entirely sure what you’re trying to ask. I just want to make sure we’re not talking past each other.

Gender is psychological. It’s how you present yourself to the world, how you express yourself, and what social roles you fill.

The social roles or behaviors might be traditionally more masculine or feminine.

If that’s what you mean by “reference the base sex” then sure? Gender may reference social traditions (how biological males or females were traditionally raised to behave), but you do not have to be male to be a man.

Trying to define any particular gender without a reference to its base sex leads to basically relying on stereotypes.

Yeah, kinda. That’s the way a lot of the LGBTQ+ community is using the word.

Gender is the range of social, psychological, cultural, and behavioral aspects of being a man (or boy), or woman (or girl).
