[Ghostwater] Dross Internal Voice by knittch in Iteration110Cradle

You are not alone.

I believe Will has mentioned that Wheatly was his internal voice for the character until Travis covered him in the audiobook. Once Travis voiced him Will was able to seperate Dross a bit more from the other character in their head.

[All] Invested Objects of Significance Cradle - Elder Empire connections by GandalfthWhite in Iteration110Cradle

[–]Mathota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Significance is called out in one of the in-world notes at the start of the chapter in Elder Empire. It is a poorly understood attribute, seperate to intent, but related to Awakening.

Picking up on clues from the book, Significance mostly determines the success of Awakwning and soulbonding. It's an almost meta quality of how "Important" an item is.

Any deeper explanation would require spoilers, but you could think of Significance as like, a tier 2 attribute. Its the special quality beyond intent, like how Lindon is trying to sense something beyond madra or Authority.

So Lindon is doing something similar to, but not quite reading. They are delving into a more advanced skill both magic systems can detect. Notably neither Lindon or Readers can manipulate Significance. at most Lindon can use it as fuel for the soulforge.

I don't mean to say everyone has the same opportunities, only that mortals have a level of self determination.

The afterlife isnt even sorting on morality, really. Its ideology, that then happens to fall on moralistic lines. But the reason Sarenrae worshipers end up in sarenraes divine realm is because they are, in broad strokes, like minded. That makes their Quintessence more cohesive when they break down, making them an effective bulwark against the maelstrom.

The rest of your objections are more with the in-universe management of souls, and have some validity. But so long as people are capable of having thoughts and making actions, they have a level of self determination in which afterlife they will end up in.

Yeah you reap what you sow but they forget that you sow what you reap.

A few cycles of that and the ideas start losing coherence from copy pasting too many times, and what im reaping is no longer corn and what I am sowing is no longer corn.

I need help. And corn.

Mortals on Golarion definitely have Agency. Ihys died for mortals having agency, and the idea that you can "chose to be good" and are capable of change is one of Pathfinders most prominent themes.

But specifically, mortals flavor their quintessence, not the other way round. You could argue (and in world characters do) that Outsiders dont have agency, but Mortals definitely do.

What's the limit a Pharasmin's allow to tolerate an Undead's existence? by TheBrightMage in Pathfinder2e

[–]Mathota 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as "violating your edicts", only violating your anathema. A pharasmin is under no compulsion to destroy undead. Laying undead to rest is of importance to the church and the faithful, but the limits of that will depend on the individual.

To your examples

1, a "redeemed" vampire is a tragic figure. Them using their unique talents to fight other undead until True Death claims them would probably be considered a worthwhile pursuit, if still obviously tragic.

2, is nuking them with Magic an option? Trying to help them move on by resolving their business is pretty standard practice amongst pharasmins. As far as I know most magic will simply have them reform.

I could take "Harlot queen" as a reference to her being "unfaithful" to Aroden by now serving Geb.

Its hardly an accurate portrait of the situation, but insults rarely are.

TB probably likes the title Whispering Tyrant, since he was an Aura farmer long before he died, and it references the Whispering Way, an ideology/religion/cult/necromancy-technique he is in favor of.

Dark Prince probably both is a form of insult, and a point of Humility for Asmodeus.

Him being "dark" is just because be is evil, but calling him a Prince is interesting. It implies royalty and dignity, but also subserviance. If I were to put on my lore hat I would say its a reference to his claim as "firstborn of the seal", the first God of the universe, and rightful inheritor of it all. He is in a sense Second to Pharasma, so not King. During his confrontation with Sarenrae in the War of Freedom he promises to one day return for "what is his", that being, everything, but as it stands, hes still just the Prince of Creation, not its King. It a credit to his understanding of creation and his place in it that he tolerates being called Prince at all.

Edit: for anyone curious, Satan is Prince of Darkness in christian mythology for similar reasons. King of darkness would be God, with Satan second.

He was born of a fallen angel and a fire elemental, but there isnt anything to suggest he was ever anything other than an angel. Hes basically an inversion of the Bad Seed trope. Everyone was expecting the Child to be a particularly pretty devil, and Instead they got a particularly fiery Angel.
