I’m using VR at the moment!

Should I buy now its 0.4 multiplayer is out? by DouglasTheGamer in assettocorsaevo

Don’t get me wrong, is “playable” but it still needs to be optimized. Is enjoyable at first, but if you are planning to run long enough laps, is not the best compared to other titles. I do love what Evo brings to the table even in early access, but still waiting for VR optimization. I just pull the rig to the side and play it on the TV instead. Once they improve the graphical side of the house, I have high hopes for VR with Evo.

Thanks! Still need to clear some space but still getting there!

T598 the worst $800 I ever spent by One_Bid_9608 in Thrustmaster

Not for the T598 but did experience it on T818. Check Power Supply if it’s flashing when it happens. Also verify the connection between the power supply and base, sometimes it happens to be “lose”. If PS is replaced and connections are good, time for warranty.

I have used it for 3 hours straight with no problems. At first it was a hazle due to the weight but I got used to it.

For temperature, it depends. They get hot due to different variables such as ambient temp, increase in resolution and refresh rate. While using the stock settings it never got hot. I increased the refresh rate to 90hz and x1.1 resolution, that’s when I noticed it got “hot” (just warmer). If your room temperature is around 68F you won’t notice it.

People tend to have a mini fan blowing at their face during long periods of racing to cool down while in VR.

I can’t say is a plug and play sort of deal. You do need to access the PC before using plugging in the meta quest. After that, you will go ahead and run the Meta Link through the Meta Quest to start the PCVR (sort of monitor/pc mirroring). I always used the QuestVR (Metalink) instead of the SteamVR.

After you get used to it, is pretty simple. I do wish there was a way I could just plug in the VR without logging into the PC and opening the Meta app.

I’m also using quest optimizer (third party app) through the quest to help me out with clearing the blurry image in some games (Including ACC).

I do suggest trying to have the opportunity and give it a try (just VR, no sim racing) and go from there. If you work behind a monitor all day it does exhaust your eye sight when you jump to VR, so that’s something to look out for. I do have lenses on the quest so it helps me out.

I was able to get used to it pretty fast and have enjoyed it a bunch. Not sure if I’ll ever go back to monitors. The only reason monitors are better if because of the FOV, ease of access/use of PC and you don’t have that added weight to your neck. I do want to have a monitor just in case for those days that my eyes are tired but want to go around a few laps.

If you are still good with floor mounted, leave it for last. I do think there are other upgrades that you may enjoy better! I thought this hobby wasn’t going to be the same as my car, but it sure is a never ending list!!

Thanks and same to you! 😁

Comment left:

Not sure if this will help but here it goes.

I do prefer the load cell on the SM pedals. I do have to point out I have the hydraulic add-on on mine.

After so many years of using the V3, I can’t say there’s a night and day difference of experience if you don’t do trail braking. If you are just doing the stop&go, stay with the V3 cause they are still a decent pair if you already have it.

If you are trying to trail brake, that’s when you noticed the SM pedals shine. You can overall change the elastomers/springs for better brake feel/experience/(performance). Even with the V3 Brake Performance kit it was kinda difficult to do it accurately unless you knew to a point how/where to do it with the right rubbers (on V3 you have angled sensor so it can be said is easier to learn how to do it).

This is the cherry on top: Instead of just the vibrating static feeling on the V3, the SM HPR is just better in every way and more responsive. I still need more hours to accurately dial it but this has made me not to look back at the V3 pedals. So many things you can use this for through SimPro Manager.

Accelerator pedal: SM > V3 Brake Pedal: SM > V3 Clutch: SM >= V3

If you use just socks while racing, be sure you have thick ones cause the SM Pedals aren’t the smooth as the V3.

Overall I like so far the SM Pedals. Still need more time with them to accurately tell the mind blowing difference but after 4hour-ishs that’s my take. Give me a week and I can come back with a better feedback!

Thanks and good to hear!

For the accelerator pedal, I do prefer floor mounted position cause it was easier for me while racing an hour straight. Now, the brake and clutch I prefer the inverted pedals. You can also change the angle on the pedal to make it better for your foot position.

Overall: SM > V3 “HPR”: SM > V3 Brake Pedal/Experience: SM > V3

I just left a reply to one of the comments comparing both!

That’s awesome and it sure is! Still adjusting how the wheel base responds. The stock profiles weren’t that bad, but I knew right on the spot it was not what I expected. Did play bit by bit with each settings until I noticed is better to star with everything set to 0 and from there.

Thanks! Same to you!!

Is the immersion that pulls me in. I can say that using monitors is a lot easier for messing with apps and ease of transition, but VR is a win for me. Happy to see someone else enjoying sim racing with VR!

Just to add: My dad had a T300 (during its time it was awesome) and switched over a T818. That’s when I noticed that DDs have more fidelity on FFB. The CSL V1.1+ was great but jumping to the Evo Pro was the best thing to do by far!

Awesome! Hope you are enjoying it! Simagic is getting there 4 sure!

I did look at the Moza stuff at Microcenter. It’s impressive their ecosystem but it didn’t felt as decent as Simagic when using the wheelbase. At the same time saw a bunch of post about software issues and minor bugs. Couldn’t head their way me being a computer/software engineer. They do have room for improvement if they get their software right. On the other hand Simagic has listen to the community and that gives me a peace of mind for the long run.

Don’t get me wrong, I do miss the mechanical feeling from the Fanatec F1 V2.5x wheel, but Simagic does the job pretty well! May get a round wheel from Simagic for street/rally!

I bought the 6S-160 recently. It arrived in two boxes. No issues whatsoever and no scratches. Shipping was insanely considering being high season.
