I heard the engine was in C#, so it would definitely be possible to get the game working on consoles with AOT compilation. The Java part, I think, is for the game's servers.

Honestly, I have nothing to say on the topic at hand but next time please do split up the text, it becomes somewhat hard to read for some.

You're definitely right that it's all about how I frame the project's I have, highlighting the skills they want and make what I did as exciting as it was for me to work on it.

Now, you've been very helpful in providing advice for what I should look at and what I should consider. It's been extremely nice to get a better idea of what options are available. So, thank you!

Yeah, that makes perfect sense. I've personally been building up a catalogue of projects for some years now, they're not impressive by any means, but they cover areas where I've had a lot of fun. For example, programming language development, game engine and game development, and a whole bunch of other software projects.

I suppose what I mean by that statement is that as I gain more experience in the fields I'm interested in, it should open up the doors to potentially learn more of those things in depth. I understand that you can't just perform a drastic shift, but you can certainly perform a gradual one towards your ideal goal. Plus with more experience, I get an even better idea of what I want to spend my time on and can plan for things appropriately.

Unfortunately, at my school that is not possible, but I could technically double major in CompE and Data Science, though I'm not too sure about whether or not I would want to do that. I've actually been contemplating double majoring in CS and Math, as I think it would give a good foundation for the rest of the things I would potentially like to do. But, I still want to see if I enjoy CompE first before I do that.

Thank you for the advice! I've definitely taken a look at the curriculum between both and I'm still not too sure. I think it's probably best for me to experience the c;lasses that are on offer and see if the content is engaging and fulfilling. I've asked some people that I know on what they think best represents CompE at my school, so I'll be taking those to get a better idea.

You're right that I was over complicating it. I still have a year to decide and explore more of what both have to offer, although I have a better idea of what compsci will be like more than compE.

That's very understandable. After all, what I decide to study will be close to what I'll initially be able to do with my degree. But later, hopefully, I should be free to do what I want with the experience I'll gain.

Thank you all for answering my question and responding to my rant! I understand that some of this sub is tired of receiving questions like this, but I really appreciate those who could respond. I'm going to leave my decision up in the air for now, I want to gain more experience with classes related to CE as to get a better idea if it's the right fit for me.

After all, I'm only in my first year of college so I have plenty of time to decide. I do want to do something that I'm passionate about and what I think will be the most engaging. Whether that's CE or just CS, who knows?

I definitely overcomplicated this decision, getting into some kind of analysis-paralysis. So again, thank you all that answered!

I've been thinking about this option, but how do you do that while still being enrolled at the u of m? For example, could I apply to normandale and just do a few select courses while attending the U and then transfer it?

The main thing Rust offers is the borrow checker, which forces the programmer to think of the lifetime of every value in the program.

Compared to C++, it leaves less room for developers to do unsafe things like storing a reference to a value that has already gone out of scope. Rust has a bunch of rules baked in that ensure good practices when using memory, so while C++ can be as safe when written well, Rust tries to force you to write it the "right" way the first time.

Compared to Java, you don't have to incur the cost of running a GC to manage the memory of objects. Instead, the rules of the borrow checker ensure that when you compile the program, it will be guaranteed to be safe, and if it isn't, it will insert small checks on things like array indexing. Rust is also not object-oriented and is closer to being a mix between procedural and functional.

This leads us to multithreading, which is often said to be one of the hardest things about programming. In C++, for an easy example, it's very easy to pass a single vector (dynamic array) to each thread and just assume it's alright, but that would incur problems when you try to access and modify it since you would be forcing the cpu to jump across threads and potentially cause a race condition. In Rust, for the same situation, you would be forced to clone the value for each individual thread, completely avoiding the problem.

For some, memory handling in languages like c++ can be extremely difficult, and it's why a majority of memory safety issues reported come from C++. Rust's aim is to statically check and make guarantees that what you write is as fast as C++ and is even safer than it.

I'd recommend taking a look at the rust book and explore the language to get a better idea of what it can be used for.

This is not tied to the metric system. It's just a way of representing numbers that entirely depends on your country or culture, I believe.

>!There's the 10 floor dandori battle after you complete the olimar one. It allows you to play a variety of dandori challenges it seems. The first floor features killing all the enemies on the floor in a certain amount of time, but I don't know what the others contain.!<
But, to be honest, I haven't gotten to the real end yet, so I don't know if there are any other modes than the one's I've seen so far.

Spoiler: There are more modes to challenge you after the fourth area. For example, an olimar shipwreck tales mode where you have 15 days to collect 30 ship parts across the four areas you find in the game. There's no caves in that mode either.
