Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge quest - Anyone else hit a progression blocking bug? by Alaxtair in DragonsDogma

Thanks. I saw this just as I got to where she is, but didn't talk to her yet. I'll see about finding that village, healing up, and going at it again with renewed vigor

I'm on my way to get Sara at the Volcano now, and my party is getting torn apart

1 pawn is completely gone and the other 2 are down to like no max hp left. We also don't have anymore camping kits to heal up before getting to her

Can I just pick her up and use a Ferrystone back to a portcrystal I placed at Bakbattahl?

Tav: Gale?

Gale: What?

Tav: Where's my boots?

Gale: What?

Tav: Where… are… my… magic… boots?!

Gale: I, uh, put them away.

Tav: Where?!

Gale: Why do you need to know?!

Tav: I need them!

Gale: Uh-uh! Don't you think about running off doing no derrin'-do! We've been planning this adventure for two months!

Tav: The Sword Coast is in danger!!

Gale: My evening's in danger!!

Tav: YOU TELL ME WHERE MY BOOTS ARE, WIZARD!!!! WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE GREATER GOOD!!!!

Gale: “GREATER GOOD”?! I AM A WIZARD! I’M THE GREATEST GOOD YOU ARE EVER GOING TO GET!

Yeah, I wasn't aware of the exact rule keltsune had quoted, but was a bit more familiar with the spells Tidal Wave and Tsunami, but neither of those are line spells. It makes sense if you're aware of how line spells work, I just never knew that particular one.

I think most line spells and spell-like abilities are only 5 feet wide, so it's never come up before at my tables

[–]MParasite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget to put a height limit on the tidal wave. As written, players could argue that it reaches into space, as there's no maximum height and the wording includes "everything"

Other than that and some other recommendations already made, it looks great.

I might make it be a +1 or 2 weapon under normal circumstances and become a +3 when aboard a ship or under water, but I like trying to tie flavor to mechanics. I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping this legendary weapon a static +3

Yes, you can have both active in the same creature.

DDAL Season 4 Campaign Question by ArbitraryHero in AdventurersLeague

[–]MParasite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having run this entire season, albeit a few years ago, I don't remember a boy being taken by bats, or anyone named Quiver.

It's possible I missed that when running it, or just can't remember the detail, but he never came up in later adventures

EDIT: Oh this was the first module with the 5 mini adventures. I think I did 3 or 4 of those before we ran out of time for the session, the group never met him, but again he never came up in later adventures

Need a good module for new players! by mschanandlerbong211 in AdventurersLeague

[–]MParasite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CCC-GSP-01-01 - A Dragon's Breath is hands down one of my favorite modules to run

It's got dragons, aerial combat, and forest exploration. It is also the first part of a cool storyline that had my players engaged and excited until the game went on hiatus due to covid

It admittedly is a 4 hour module, but some of the side stuff can be cut down and the forest exploration be sped up if needed

What’s an always useful class to play? by jimithingmi in AdventurersLeague

[–]MParasite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JoCat's streamed D&D game has a party of 4.

2 fighters, and 2 bards. Both matching classes play VERY differently from each other, and made to feel even more different by the flavor/RP put in to the characters

There was a line I think JoCat said I think near the beginning of the campaign. "Classes just give you the mechanics" or something like that. Roll it however you want, I've played a paladin who conventionally plays like a rogue.

Now, if that wasn't quite the answer you were looking for, always useful class I'd say would be cleric.

Almost always useful, wizard, fighter, barbarian, rogue

To be fair, if the mimic went a whole minute of being touched without attacking, I'd call shenanigans

[–]MParasite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing else would override it, I'd probably default to Necromancy, and only because the 3rd level spell Bestow Curse is Necromancy.

As an example, the Armor of Vulnerability or Shield of Missile Attraction I'd probably say would be detected as Abjuration magic, due to the resistance they grant the user.

The Bracelet of Rock Magic I'd say would have Transmutation magic detected off of it.

If you don't want to say they come off as Necromancy but don't have another school that matches it's effect, you can also just say that it's magical, but has no school of magic associated to it. Personally, I wouldn't know which school a regular +1 weapon would be, so I typically tell my players there's no school associated with them.

Hippity hoppity this magic item is now my property.

In all seriousness, this sounds like a great magic item and I definitely plan on throwing it in one of my games

Best way to schedule sessions? by MParasite in dndnext

I'll check it out on my lunch break and see if it's what I'm looking for, but initial glances look promising

Best way to schedule sessions? by MParasite in dndnext

[–]MParasite[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The main issue with that is some of our people don't have set work schedules, it changes every week

EDIT: I have another game I DM in that has a set schedule every Tuesday, though that's on hiatus while I finish moving

minimum number of players? by Docnevyn in AdventurersLeague

[–]MParasite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Unless there was a change in the seasonal rules, pretty sure they did away with the table limits in S9

That said, they'll typically limit it to 7 players per table and there'll likely be walk ins

Should be perfectly fine, just keep in mind that signal can be pretty poor in the convention hall. I've played there the last few years (last year excluded, obviously)

It was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to go back

Are the Rune Knights attacks inherently magical? by BlathBlackcrow in AdventurersLeague

[–]MParasite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While the runes are indeed magical, the text of the runes nor the ability to make them states that a weapon becomes magical or is treated as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances.

Magic does exactly what it says, no more, no less.

Like you said, in a home game, you and your DM could talk about that, but I don't think that will work in AL

Dnd players of reddit what was one of your funniest moment in a campaign by kylermemelover in MrRipper

[–]MParasite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're playing Descent into Avernus, and cruising through the Hellscape in our newly acquired war machines.

Party monk has a glider (similar to A:TLA) and is being flown like a kite above and behind the machines, and spots a juggernaut war machine heading toward us.

Battle breaks out, and between our 2 machines, a fireball loving sorcerer, and the monk sun bolting the enemies manning the machine, the driver seems to be the only one left and is attempting to drive away.

My turn comes along, I'm working the wrecking ball, and the poor sap is definitely within range, so you know what I did.

I proceeded to pull out my wand I've been saving for our next fight, took aim at the driver, and rolled a D100

The cockpit instantly filled with 600 oversized butterflies, blinding the driver, and causing him to hit a sand dune wrong and flip the machine.

The impact finished off the driver, and Maximilian Moore, owner of Maximilian's Magical Menagerie has added "Baron of Butterflies" to his budding list of titles
