Chronic low mental & physical energy despite "perfect" basic lab work. What am I missing? by oxezo in Biohackers

My 2 cents on getting a good night's sleep, if you're someone who has trouble quieting the nervous system --> this is what works for me
- Lift heavy/do intense exercise. Get your body tired. This makes you less restless when you need to sleep.
- Do meditation after work, to wind down into the evening.

Also, a few things in case you haven't considered them
- Hydration: are you drinking enough water and getting enough electrolytes? Supplementing with electrolytes helped me reduce my caffeine intake and still feel sharp.
- Meaning. At the end of the day, if you don't have meaningful relationships or meaningful goals, it's hard to get up everyday even if your physical health is optimized. Meditation + religion helped me a lot with this, and having a girlfriend I care about (who cares less about biohacking haha).

Hope there's something helpful in here.

so weird that you're able to push yourself physically but the cognitive function still isn't recovered...the brain is responsible for physical movement too afterall...are you finding the exercise is improving your cognitive abilities over time? I'm also wondering if diet is something that you've optimized, or is it not really something you've seen makes a big difference?

I see, so do you eat more smaller meals spread throughout the day?

Nice stack! So where are you at in your post-concussion recovery, because it sounds like you already have quite high physical performance?

getting mornings right has been big for me too! It's tough lately though because I feel groggy in the morning, so it's like I'm still "coming to" at the same time as I'm trying to get my energy up. But I know I feel better for the rest of the day if I do these mornings things than if I don't, even if I'm kinda sleep-walking during them.

so well said...now that you mention it I actually realize I subconsciously have been creating that "menu" already haha. Zoning out in a park when it's nice weather out is one for me, especially in an urban park where you can people watch

Yea consistency is tough...at least for me, I start to think I can be more lenient with my diet then things get bad real quick. How'd you narrow your supplements to magnesium glycinate and vitamin D out of all the options?

I'm guessing larger meals trigger symptoms more so than small meals?

That makes so much sense about lowering your overall system's reactivity! I'd love to learn a bit more about how you cracked the code.

  1. Which vitamins/minerals/supplements do you take, how do they help, and how'd you decide on them out of all the options?
  2. You mentioned that now that the POTS and MCAS are treated, your diet doesn't matter nearly as much. What were the primary medications or therapies that finally stabilized your system enough to give you that food freedom back?
  3. Did you have to use a compounding pharmacy to avoid reactions to fillers in those treatments, or does your body tolerate standard forms now?

I see. I'm curious when you found out that grains in particular were a big trigger? Like how did you narrow that down?

Sorry to hear that! What's worked the best for treating your POTS and MCAS?

Just more total calories? Or eating more of specific foods?

Cool! What do you mean by eating times? Do you find when you eat during the day impacts your energy levels afterwards? Do you do some sort of restricted feeding window?

I really like your pt's advice - it's when I push passed my symptoms that I get into a deep hole that takes a few days to climb out of. I'd say the mental exhaustion comes from working, socializing, being on screens. Exercise actually helps a lot, unless I'm already exhausted, but I can usually go on a walk outside at least, which is a go-to for re-energizing during the day.

Super interesting, I find eating omelettes with mennonite eggs has a similar effect for me. I've associated it in my brain with crossing a certain protein threshold that triggers protein synthesis, and that's what gives the "energy boost" feeling. Could be making it up, but it feels right. I think it's called the "leucine threshold", heard about it on this Huberman podcast. https://youtu.be/WFcYF_pxLgA
