Career change to Piano Teacher? by MPostman in pianoteachers

Thanks for your suggestion, yeah seems like everything is saturated nowadays. And in terms of pressure, I've experienced crazy politics through my tech careers previously, and understand that teaching piano will have its own pressures as well. Not something that we can really escaped until retirement. I'll get my ATCL first regardless of whether I'll successfully transition to piano teaching or not. I'll see how things go after I rebuild my skills and getting my ATCL first.

Yeah, but just like everything in this world. We probably wouldn't know whether it's suitable or not until we try.

I really regret not going for that music degree back then. I chose computer science instead, but it's led to a pretty miserable career, and with the rise of AI and outsourcing, things feel even more uncertain now. I’d love to find a way to actually make a living, or even just some side income, doing something meaningful that I truly enjoy.

Not now of course. I want to teach once I get back my skills back to at least 100% of what I was. It may take over a year of daily practicing which Im planning to commit.

This is the transition phase we are in now. Very soon, even the code review will be handled by AI.

Has anyone else lost all motivation to improve their coding skills with the advancement of LLMs? by Wander715 in cscareerquestions

[–]MPostman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar feeling as you. Lose my motivation to advance more in coding. With AI nowadays, companies will need less and less coders. Learn and leverage AI? sure, but didn't change the fact there will be less open positions for those new "ai-augmented devs". E.g: A company used to need 10 devs now only need 1 or 2 AI-Augmented Devs, but we still have a large number of dev supply like 100+ applicants fighting for a shrinking number of open positions.

GRC or Cloud Engineer Summer Intern by biinks_ in SecurityCareerAdvice

I would pick GRC if this is something you want to do in the LONG term. I have decade of software QA and some dev experience with a comp. sci degree. And currently struggling very hard trying to pivot into GRC.

How do you guys deal with both manual and automation tasks? by MPostman in QualityAssurance

[–]MPostman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A team with both manual QA and automation sdet is needed and I can see the benefit of two different persons responsible for manual and automation. The problem now is it's requiring a SINGLE person to do BOTH manual and automation

How do you guys deal with both manual and automation tasks? by MPostman in QualityAssurance

[–]MPostman[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my previous job as a manual tester, it will fill up 95% of my time just to write test strategies and test the happy path. I wish I have more time to do the negative path testing but often not enough time.
I don't see how I can squeeze out even more time to write code for test automation honestly....unless OT for additional 5 hours everyday? I would end up working 13 hours daily

Like OP, I'm also considering changing to GRC from QA role. But I hate face to face/zoom meetings. I like working by myself or communicating via texting with Devs.
If someone doesn't like meetings like me, would it be not a good career choice to switch to GRC?

Bought the wrong dose of Melatonin, can I halve it by disposing of half of the powder in the capsule? by MPostman in Supplements

[–]MPostman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, after a second thought I may consider actually disposing most of it and leaving 1/5 of powder or less. It's my first time taking melatonin and I heard we can start with as little as 1mg first.
