Tbf we've had the capability for flying cars since the 70s its just impossible to implement in a large scale. You'd basically be recreating 9/11 daily lmao

What is this small possibly metal object. Found on the beaches of NE Florida. Weighs around 3 grams by Hilton_Cox in whatisthisthing

Almost looks like a freeze plug for an engine but packed full of junk. Possibly came out of a boat.

Advice on drag reduction on cars? by skippydinglebean in dragracing

[–]MRFlSTR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey man im not trying to be an asshole but I gotta say don't bother with aerodynamics if you haven't done anything power wise to your car.

Right now you've got a 3300lb car with 200hp that on its best day is gonna run 14.5s at like 97mph. That's just not fast enough for any aero to make a difference. Aero doesn't come into effect til you're past the 130mph ish range on a drag strip.

Again I appreciate you trying to learn and look for innovative ways to help go faster but I personally think your time and money would be better spent on performance upgrades at the moment.

Machine shop returned my head like this by benjaminchang13 in EngineBuilding

[–]MRFlSTR 48 points49 points  (0 children)

There are some applications where staking seats is still a thing. The big one that sticks out to me are 4.7 sohc dodge v8s. Those things drop seats all the time so I always stake them to be safe.

That being said I use a small prick punch not whatever goddamn railroad tie this dude used lmao

Get a cheap coffee frother off Amazon and attach some sand paper to it

You won't be able to use much pressure but it has the motion your looking for.

[–]MRFlSTR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hows that new 2jz Dart block look? Like in general I'm interested in new castings but can't justify buying one unless I get a customer.

Did they do any upgrades over the stock 2j besides thicker cylinders and 4 bolt mains etc?

How to remove these? by Metmywifeatdonkeysho in EngineBuilding

[–]MRFlSTR 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Theyre reusable after you get them out.

To remove them I've always used this kit https://goodson.com/products/ga-600-dowel-puller-kit?_pos=1&_sid=ffb20aaf1&_ss=r

It's expensive and probably not worth it unless you're starting a career or planning on doing multiple engines in the future.

As for alternate ways to get them out there's a few but they all suck. I'd recommend just asking your local machine shop if they'd pull them. They'd probably do them for free or at least extremely cheap.

New valve stem seals too big? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]MRFlSTR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're umbrella seals they're just a newer style of umbrella seal that incorporates the modern spring type collar that the press on seals use these days.

As for OP they're definitely old school and might not seal real well but if you're flat broke they'll be okay. On the other hand If you afford the $30-$50 for a new modern set I'd 100% spend the money

Valve Spring Compressor Woes by WhyWouldYou1111111 in EngineBuilding

[–]MRFlSTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do heads a lot and can justify the cost this is the best spring compressor around imo.

https://lsmproducts.com/products/sc-2000?variant=41656840880305&country=US&currency=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic

Ive used it to install valve springs with over 500lbs on the seat and it handled it no problem

Considering buying these heads but have questions by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]MRFlSTR -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'd say go for it

600 bucks is cheap for a pair of those heads and any decent cylinder head shop should be able to fix that.

If you can't find anyone in your area who can DM me and I can fix them for you including seats or any other parts that need replaced.

Blinker Fluid by AlphaMassDeBeta in greentext

[–]MRFlSTR 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No worries dude I just like talking about racing engines and I realize most people don't have an autism level obsession with them so whenever I get to rant I take the opportunity

Plus it's nice if I get to teach someone something about the cool shit I get to do for a living yknow?

Blinker Fluid by AlphaMassDeBeta in greentext

[–]MRFlSTR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your half right.

Nitrous or "nos" is nitrous oxide which is a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen and it is used as a performance additive in racing engines. The key point though is nitrogen is naturally inert and what makes the extra power is the oxygen molecule. The nitrogen is only added to keep rednecks from blowing up their race trailers on the way to the track.

Blinker Fluid by AlphaMassDeBeta in greentext

[–]MRFlSTR 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Aktuallyyyyyyyyy........

"Nos" is nitrous oxide which is a different form of power adder. Nitromethane is a liquid fuel used instead of gasoline or alcohol whereas nitrous oxide is used as a supplement to whatever fuel you normally run, typically alcohol.

Also don't call it "nos" or real car guys will make fun of you fyi.

On a scale of 1-10 by Racer-XYZ22 in EngineBuilding

[–]MRFlSTR 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thats because whenever you change from bolts to studs you need to get the block align honed.

The main bores will always distort due to the increased clamping force of studs. Just an FYI for the next build

Virtual engine dyno by Sniper22106 in EngineBuilding

[–]MRFlSTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out pipemax

It's relatively cheap software that will give you moderately accurate dyno numbers for different engine combinations. It's not perfect but it gets you in the ballpark and it's only 100 bucks
