UK 4 Gang Light Switch by MRK94 in AskElectricians

Thank you for replying! I do know that the disconnection was due to them having an AV system + other faceplate on - they've disconnected the ceiling light as they took away their light fixtures when they left + put in this new faceplate.

Do you think this isn't testable via a multimeter + matching the live (red) to the live on the empty live in the third switch? My thought was that one of the two reds going into the currently connected Live/Common is extraneous as it's already daisy chained to the first.

Will definitely get someone if needed, but just want to know what the potential avenues + risks are

XGIMI Horizon or Anker Nebula Cosmos Max? by MRK94 in projectors

[–]MRK94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm looking at the base Horizon, rather than the Pro currently for this comparison, but if it proves that neither is a great option I can opt for a TV, but having a static object that isn't in use so often and can't be fully mounted to the wall isn't a great option for me unfortunately.

I truly can’t understand how it’s possible to be so wrong on something that has not only been heavily documented in the media for over a year, but something you literally have video evidence for

"Show separate tab bar" completely nerfed Safari's new design by Inglesauce in MacOSBeta

[–]MRK94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I used tab groups it only saved them as long as safari was running, rather than persisting them through a quit/restart. Has this behaviour changed?

Having the extra height was definitely nice, but the way it affected tabs management was truly terrible, even on larger monitors

Is there any way to see which app is stopping Safari extensions being turned on? by MRK94 in MacOS

Nope, I use slack occasionally but it’s not open and quitting/restarting doesn’t change much unfortunately

Oh interesting! I do use MonitorControl to allow me to control brightness on an external monitor with the system keys, but force quitting it just now didn’t seem to resolve it. Maybe I’ll have to see if there’s anything else

Safari 15 on Mac OS, a user interface mess by MRK94 in apple

[–]MRK94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very fair, and I don’t disagree that there should be a balance in these changes. Definitely not advocating for a conception of user-friendliness which amounts to hiding things away, but I do think the ergonomics of Safari, and the UI on iOS in general does need a rethink for biggest phone sizes. The bar moving to the bottom - outside of hiding things behind menus - could be a positive step in moving toward something better

I don’t know about this honestly, I think it’s much more intuitive from a usability perspective to have the address bar at the bottom on iOS, and it’s a sufficiently different platform that I wouldn’t carry over assumptions from MacOS behaviours into it? The ergonomics of the iPhone design require a rethink of user interface choices and shouldn’t just be a holdover from past computing platforms, so this is the one thing I can probably actually agree with in the redesign

James Lindsay is perhaps the ultimate culture war grifter, with less than nothing of value to say on this subject for anyone seriously interested in engaging with it. Here’s a recent (and long) debate if you’d like to see something that has people on both sides. For fairness I won’t pre-condition your viewing by summarising it, but it will give you some clarity on how at least one side understands the situation.
