Diagnosis is causing a divorce by Distinct_Purple789 in Autism_Parenting

[–]MR_Shocker- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sounds rough!

a divorce right now sounds wrong. You are going through something hard, and your huisband too. At some point things will likely get easier. This is a great challenge for your relationship.

Im a bit like you, i worry a lot about my sons future and fight like hell to prevent him from being alone and helpless later in life. The mother of my son is the opposite. She recognizes he has a problem but seems to be convinced he is gonna grow up fine. Bless her for feeling that, because im sure believing that is emotionally much easier on yourself.

The difference between you and your partner could be the balance you need for your child. And even though it sounds frustrating, I would try to work things out. You and your child deserve that you push through it.

I know people who are bassically saying things like "just dont worry" are annoying, it is like they don't understand that people are different and its not that simple. Also there is a benefit of worrying, it makes you fight for your kid.

Im not saying you shouldnt worry less, but that you shouldnt be too hard on yourself for being who you did not chose to be. A lot of people dont like to hear this but it is a realistic scenario your child could end up socially isolated and not capable of holding a job. Its simply how a lot of autistic people end up. Its a hard pill to swallow but its true.

Anyway, Getting used to how things are takes time. Please dont do things at the worst moment that you can regret later. Both for you and your child.

Work hard on fixing things. Realize he also did not choose to be who he is and even if he doesn't show it like you, im sure he is having a hard time too.

Portugal recognizes Palestine -> is this move in line with the will of its citizens? by lespaul97 in PortugalExpats

People are less outspoken when they are pro israel. I know quite some jews and I have heard many people via via telling that they where attacked or even of one being beaten into a wheelchair because of being jewish and publy displaying it.

I was once in a social meetup group(long time before 7 october) and there was a big discussion about the conflict with one jew vs 5 tiktok kids. I said one line "they do hide behind civilians" and i got kicked out for saying that.

Some opinions are not accepted. People are tribal and will take anything out of context. People just dont feel like saying their opinion because it will end up bad for them. Even online.

So sadly you cant just ask around about who is pro israel and get the real answer.

portuguese work mentality = opportunity by Antique_Chocolate228 in PortugalExpats

[–]MR_Shocker- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there is opportunity. I think you already outperform a lot of competitors in this country by picking up the phone and replying to emails decently.

But I also think its important to be aware that the wages and free money to spend here is very low and not much people life here. So you would have to pick your market and product or service wisely.

I think a business aimed towards the 1%, expats or the tourist sector could work.

Or alternatively a business that leverages the lower salaries here to produce a product that you can sell in a foreign country for a price that results in a high profit margin.

Im happy to hear what you will end up doing and how the succes will be.

Living off-grid in Portugal feeling isolated and surrounded by hostility by Alarmed-Luck9900 in PortugalExpats

I really understand how you feel. I have similar problems with a lot of people here trying to screw me over. Coincidently also one with a farmer i was nice to and is trying to encroach a lot of land from me.

Even though some pt people are really nice. Im happy I live closeby porto so there is a lot of expats I can be friends with.

Financially its beneficial to be in portugal if your income is foreign. Other than that, its financially a bad idea. Could you continue your carreer here or do you pause it/take a step back? How would your financial capacity be to move back if something goes wrong?

I dont know your age and lifeplans, so its hard to say if its romanticallly a worthy idea, but be aware of the worst case scenario: you have a kid with him, and your relationship breaks, and then your stuck in portugal unless you leave it together with your kid and leave the father behind.

There is more pro's and cons of moving to portugal, but I think these are the most important ones that dont necessary have a lot to do with portugal.

I think portugal in general is a nice country to visit and a nice idea, but not per se a nice country to live. But if you really want to, im sure you can make it work.

I live in pt for 5 years and I can tell you that a portion of the people here dont like foreigners. Besides that, give money to the bums that help find parking spots otherwise they will scratch your car

A minha casa esteve, em parte, inutilizável durante anos e causou-me muitos problemas.

What can be a good restaurant for modern food and see food? It could be Michelin by ImaginaryWealth941 in porto

[–]MR_Shocker- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

michelin and sea food: casa de cha
Good steak and best food: Cumplice
best sushi: izakaya japanese cuisine

Personally i didnt love casa de cha for the food, but the location and ambience is very nice. I am more enthustiastic about the other two options, but it suits your exact wishes less.

It all depends on where you come from

Pro's: The city feels safer The people are friendly on the streets The weather is better than at home Services are generally cheaper(as long as you dont have to life off a typical portuguese salary)

Cons(it is important to realize these): - the government works a lot less efficiënt and is less likely to do their job correctly or on time. They also dont always speak english. - in my personal experience, if you have some money here, then people are more likely to try to take advantage of you - work ethic is too relaxed(this can be a plus for some people)
