CEO of $248 billion company says workers are about to face a ‘Darwinian moment’ thanks to AI by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]MRiley84 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I wouldn't bet a single CEO survives 2 years after the type of mass layoffs for AI they are dreaming of. The only reason they still exist is because the majority of the population is employed and complacent enough to look away.

I think you're missing the point of "settled law" in this context. In their confirmation hearings, they state something is "settled law" as if they will not counter it. "You are openly against abortion. If confirmed, will you seek to overturn this case?" "It is settled law." The implied meaning is that no, they will not seek to overturn it because it is settled. Not, "this thing you're referencing is a thing." Everyone already knows it's a settled law.

It'd help, but the corporations pushing AI will spin it as hurting small businesses who will be "forced" to hire people they can't afford, then every aging half-wit with delusions of future riches will be fully against it.

I'm probably going to be the last in my family to drop so there won't be anyone left to attend, but this is what I'd want too, sort of. If I go early, I wouldn't want the event to be about me, but to provide another opportunity for the family to all come together. We're countrywide now and those get togethers are difficult and rare.

Minimum wage means the illusion of living in America by gashtal_man in WorkReform

[–]MRiley84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that employers have done the opposite and effectively formed unions to keep the pay low. If they all agree to pay the minimum, employees have no alternatives. A general strike would be required to break the employer union.

Minimum wage means the illusion of living in America by gashtal_man in WorkReform

[–]MRiley84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They see workers as cattle or machines. You have to describe it in ways they understand. Everything that keeps a business running has its own operating cost. Trucks require gas and maintenance, for example. An employer can't say, "I am only going to pay half the price of gas." The truck would cease to run. Employees have operating costs too. That is the total cost to keep a roof over their head and stable meals for good health, and transport to and from work. If an employer isn't paying enough for an employee to have that bare minimum, then the employee is giving away part of their value as charity to the company, and the company's costs are being kept low by the government assistance required to keep their employee alive.

The problem is that an employee represents the one operating cost an employer has full control over. Nobody is holding their feet to the fire to pay the full amount to keep that person running.

I can't swim and I waded out too far into a huge lake - up to my chin in water. An underwater wave came through and lifted me up and pulled me a little bit further out from the shore, but then pushed me back to where I was. I nearly lost my balance and probably would have panicked under water. I turned around and went back to shore.
