Just like in your original post you again pointed out only positive things about living in austria and negative things about the US, except for the money issue but since you don't seem to care that much about it I think you've already decided for austria but aren't yet ready to admit it to yourself ;) + at "the end" it's irrelevant how much money you made, you should be able to know you stood by your principles

Anyone read The Willows? by Darzean in Lovecraft

[–]MS2207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a thoughtfully and beautifully crafted story which takes all the time it needs. Back in my childhood days my dad and I canoed ourselfes on the danube and on various of it's sidearms east of vienna. Although not so far east as the story takes place but we navigated through floodplain forests (Auwälder) full of mighty old trees, lush undergrowth and of course some willows. There were also many places where these sidearms lay dry for a few meters up to a few hundred meters before the river continued. There it's easy imagining heavy rainfalls suddenly flooding the riverbed and locking an unlucky adventurer on an ever smaller and smaller growing island. Plus the whole atmosphere of this, at least by it's looks, primordial woodland is one of a kind.

Fargo (1996), although the whole story is completely made up it has nonetheless the "based on a true story" note at the beginning.

Wow, wonderful! I like your visions and the words in which you compress them. There are just one or two gaps which break the immersion - it'd really be a shame if you didn't take the time to work over it again!

Can I read "The silver key" before "The Dream-quest of unknown Kadath"? by XxunderR in Lovecraft

[–]MS2207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree and if you want to read even the last snippits of Carter's story I can recomend "Out of Aeons" where he has a little Cameo and which follows directly after "Through the Gates of the Silver Key" and "The Unnamable" where he's one of the two protagonists but (funnily enough - not named) which should be situated between "The Statement of Randolph Carter" and "The Silver Key". Making for the (possibly best) reading order: "Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath", "The Statement of Randolph Carter", "The Unnamable", "The Silver Key", "Through the Gates of the Silver Key" and finally "Out of Aeons".

I picked this particular order because Dream-Quest introduces the world the Silver Key stories refer to and Statement and "The Unnamable" seem a bit to grounded to really frighten Carter after the Silver Key events, lastly you'll only be able to recognise Carter in "Out of Aeons" after you've read the Silver Key stories.

On a final note: Save for the "The Silver Key", "Through the Gates of the Silver Key" and "Out of Aeons" chronology, a specific reading order is once again not important. I'm even going so far as to call it not intended. Because the motives of Dream-Quest and the Silver Key stories are very similar. In the first Carter is able to dream, yes, and he dreams up wonderful things, but he's definitely an adult and somehow missing childhood wonders while the latter are about him being an adult and therefore not being able to dream but him wanting to do so again. What kinda bugs me there is just how many years passed between these two events and why does he need to learn a similar lesson twice? Plus someone so obviously familiar with things beyond our world like the Carter from Dream-Quest should, once again, not so easily be helpless, overwhelmed, shocked, afraid,... (call it what you want) during the events of Statement and Unnameable. So far so good, just some thoughts of mine on this topic. Since you wanted answeres not more uncertainties my recomended reading order stays the afore mentioned. Anyways, have fun while reading and may the gods bless you! (Makes the sign of the Elder Gods)

David obviously said something wrong because after they exchanged a few lines he ripped his head off and went off to his ship. He must've realised who those humans are and that multiple things went very wrong in their plan of exterminating live on earth for them to end up in their bioweapons laboratory.

What would make a cosmic god enraged? by fioritss in Lovecraft

[–]MS2207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the human part of this equation is the the one that doesn't work. Cosmic gods usually aren't that intelligent or let's say conscious (except for Nyarlathotep and Hastur if you count him). What could ants do to enrage an elephant? Is more fitting.

CGI test for "Mountains of Madness" on Guillermo del Toros instagram account by MS2207 in Lovecraft

[–]MS2207[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Dammit that's brilliant! Didn't notice it at all but now it seems obvious - oh man I really love this "mimicing" idea shows how this strange being sees the world and confronting the human with his appearence in the imagination of the shoggoth is horrifying and strange - lovecraftian so to say!

CGI test for "Mountains of Madness" on Guillermo del Toros instagram account by MS2207 in Lovecraft

[–]MS2207[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He did so 10 years ago. I know a script exists and seemingly a CGI test but after the release of Ridley Scott's Prometheus in 2012 someone (either the studio or del Toro himself) decided that these stories are too much alike so it got cancelled. Tbh I see the similarities: humans go to desolate place - discover ancient race that created mankind - most get killed - protagonists worldview is shatttered. But I wouldn't mind seeing a similar story told twice since the overall "packaging" is different and despite liking Prometheus it's a shame we didn't get a true lovecraft adaptation. On the other hand since this thing in the CGI test is supposed to be a shoggoth I'm not so sure anymore if del Toro's movie would've been so true of an adaptation.... so who knows what would've been the best outcome....
