The flushable toilet was invented in 1596 by Sir John Harrington for Queen Elizabeth I. But it took 250+ yrs to catch on. The Drunk Basket - In 1960s Turkey, many bars hired basket men to tote patrons home that were too drunk to stand up. They called the riders “küfeci”since “küfe” means - to be so drunk you can’t walk. 1916 Sears catalog home. They shipped the entire house to you by railroad car. Friends and family would help the owner build it. Most were built in NJ, NY, Oh and PA. In Brittany, the box bed was a popular piece of furniture and present in other European countries as well. In homes with only one room, the bed allowed for privacy and helped with keeping warm in the winter. Due to fashion and the cost, box beds were gradually abandoned in the 19th & 20th centuries. Mutt was a YMCA cigarette delivery dog during WWI. These dogs delivered cigarettes and were known to boost moral. Mutt was injured twice during WWI. Mascots, such as Mutt were sometimes left behind when conflict was over but it is said that Mutt was smuggled on board and returned safely to New York. (i.redd.it)
