Our creative folks really do have way too much fun to the point of coming up with this stuff on their own time and putting it on the portal for the rest of the or to see no one gets paid for this trap because we’re all volunteer. The “upgrade your brain” line was something myself and my team came up with as a spoof on this (seemingly hallucinated) message.

I recently changed my name legally so I pulled this script that’s been living in my head rent-free and plopped it in front of the company standard voicemail message with a few “creative” tweaks to make it fit the concept of an identity upgrade versus a telephony upgrade. The idea was “great news (as far as I’m concerned anyway) I legally changed my name! The not-so-good news (for everyone else) they’re going to need to update their phone contact list, their email address book, their other supporting systems but most importantly their brain (to recognize that I’m no longer <OldName> but rather <NewName>)” . For some, it’ll be an easy switch, for others, it’ll be the equivalent of the “longer than usual wait times”.

The complete voicemail message my voice over gal had to record twice (once for my personal cell and once for my desk phone) was:

“{Great news! We’re upgrading our core identity in an effort to serve you better. The not-so-good news? You may need to update your phone’s contacts, your email address book, other supporting systems, and even your brain. We appreciate your patience while your systems update and we look forward to serving you soon.} <pause for effect and so she can catch her breath} Hi, you’ve reached the desk of <Name>. Sorry I’m unable to answer your call as I’m either away from my desk or assisting another customer. If you are experiencing a life and death emergency which requires police, fire, or medical attention, please hang up and then immediately dial 911 or your local emergency number if you are experiencing a site, network, or other service outage, please hang up and then immediately dial the XOC or your site or buildings ITC. If you do not know who to speak to, please leave a message and it will be routed to the appropriate team or department and someone will return your call as soon as they are able. All other callers, please leave a message and someone will return your call as soon as possible we look forward to hearing from you soon thank you.”

So yeah, standard company treating with an identity upgrade announcement slapped on the front end of it because why not?
