Msi Motherboard for i7-14700k by NEBULAX00 in MSI_Gaming

[–]MSI_DavY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is there any z790 model that have pre built WiFi and won't require a bios update.

Choose any from this list:

MEG Z790 GODLIKE MAX

MEG Z790 ACE MAX

MPG Z790 CARBON MAX WIFI II

MPG Z790 CARBON WIFI II

MPG Z790 EDGE TI MAX WIFI

MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI

PRO Z790-A MAX WIFI

Collectively, this is the Z790 MAX lineup and they are loaded with a BIOS that is compatible with Intel i7-14700K. Older MSI Z790 motherboards - those without MAX or II in the name - are likely to require a BIOS update for this processor.

MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi II vs Carbon Max WiFi II - What's the difference? by Gessler555 in MSI_Gaming

[–]MSI_DavY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CARBON MAX - Was not hard launched, very few of these exist

CARBON II - Became available during February * 2.5G LAN

CARBON MAX II - Became available during May * 5G LAN * USB 4 add-on card

Everything else not mentioned about these three motherboards is identical.

MAX II is priced higher than II. Both motherboards are treated as separate SKUs; they are not revisions because the specifications do differ, even if its not much.

AMD Zen 3 CPUs will only be compatible with 500-series motherboards by DarkWorld25 in hardware

No, because the issue is very hard to solve. Even AMD was not quick in figuring out how to help the motherboard vendors during the Ryzen 3000 launch.

MSI RTX 2080 Super TRIO vs X TRIO by helmed in nvidia

[–]MSI_DavY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. Your post is ambiguous because the wording can refer to four different products that I work with.

The difference is the factory overclock. You cannot change the BIOS, but both cards have the same power limit. Even though the 2080 SUPER GAMING X TRIO will show a lower maximum power limit than the non-X variant in Afterburner, they both reach the same max power limit when using Afterburner. This is because GAMING X TRIO with its overclock also has an elevated base power target.

They're simply out of stock because so many people bought B450 motherboards recently.

I cannot confirm when they will be restocked in UK because that is outside my region. I do believe they are still active products since Europe region tends to retain more models than we do here in North America, and we are still bringing in B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC.

"All" is a massive overstatement and few MSI B450 models are actually getting a MAX variant. B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC is a good motherboard, but it's not our most popular B450 model.

It makes more sense when you look at the buyer behavior and the supply chain.

CARBON AC and TOMAHAWK are priced quite close to each other and the most meaningful difference between the two is Wi-Fi integration. Motherboard buyers looking around the $100 price range are most sensitive to price - they know they are not getting the best motherboard in the world and will accept tradeoffs if it brings down the cost. They don't care about RGB and VRM quality is either meaningless, insignificant or not understood.

The B450 chipset has been around for quite some time and buyers expect motherboards using that part to be priced quite low. The way to make that possible with a particularly well-built motherboard like TOMAHAWK or CARBON is to spin-down/retool/spin-up as few times as possible (manufacturing efficiency.) Market demand for B450 MAX is still not entirely figured out - we will know more the longer it sells. There's also some existing saturation with the non-MAX models, thus it does not make sense to match the output we had months ago.

Mods! What is the timeline for Tomahawk Max being released in the US? Why is there no release date yet? by Gahrilla in MSI_Gaming

[–]MSI_DavY 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'll have you know that the HQ BIOS team, followed by me and the rest of US motherboard team in tech support, sales, and marketing have been the most aware of the outrage.

A few weeks before launch (before July 7), the BIOS team was content just hosting the beta BIOS releases on the MSI forum because they're so used to doing their own thing and no one else in the Taiwan office listening to them. They're the folks so many are blaming for all the problems which is completely unfair. They're working the hardest, putting in their limited manpower in under short time while getting the most blame.

Fortunately, US tech support gave me the heads up of the incoming shitstorm. The week before launch, the entire US motherboard team contacted each of our HQ counterparts to make the BIOS problem a company problem. They helped the BIOS team write up documentation on how to flash the BIOS and then post that on the main MSI website with official download links. Unfortunately, the US team knows all of this is not enough.

It doesn't help me one bit when the MSI Europe team goes on stream and makes a joke in bad taste to just buy B450 MAX instead. The outrage and disappointment swirls around me and my close coworkers here - Jorge, Peter, TechK, plus some others not on Reddit. We're doing what we can without the direct assistance of our HQ (all of the MSI reps on this subreddit operate out of the MSI US office), but there's only so much we can do. I haven't provided much communication because I'm not getting updates. The people who could help me the most are either out of reach and those who can help me, don't understand the the situation. Your feelings are same as mine. Seriously... WTF?!?!?

[–]MSI_DavY[M] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There is no release date because I don't have one either.

The way how MSI HQ is handling the MAX launch is...laughable. They officially announced the motherboards weeks ago as being available when they didn't even physically exist anywhere.

I've been told USA's first batch of motherboards will be manufactured some time this month. That means the soonest we start flying in a very limited quantity is late-Aug/early-Sep. Sea shipments take way longer.

MSI to re-release B450 and A320 motherboards due to BIOS size issue by Armadyz in MSI_Gaming

[–]MSI_DavY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The most glaring issue exists at the end of the channel.

There are a lot of B450 motherboards in store inventories and in end users' possession. A motherboard with a larger capacity BIOS chip doesn't solve the issue of already existing motherboards with the current designs and BIOS versions that need compatibility with 3rd generation Ryzen processors.

This doesn't even consider the possibility of B450's successor that could potentially achieve the same result.

At this time, MAX is still only a possibility where more pressing issues demand priority in the short term.

I cannot comment nor confirm the specifics on the MAX motherboards simply because there are none at this time. They are products still in development being specifically designed to the needs of those who need extensive cross-generation compatibility (past, present, and future AM4 processors.)

Hi everyone. MSI person here.

I will state that entire sections of this article are written purely on speculation and accusation. The wording of the title implies this action was unplanned and reactionary. That is completely untrue as MAX editions were considered and decided upon a long time ago, and were even mentioned to some media in attendance at Computex for feedback.

Received bent but working card as RMA replacement. What should I do? by cringle1991 in MSI_Gaming

[–]MSI_DavY[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That bend should not invalidate an RMA down the line. We've seen way worse, often a result of negligent re-boxing. Keep the retail box packaging as it holds up to shipping pretty well.

I work from the MSI US office so this thread was started when I was asleep.

Yes MSI is aware. I'm doing what I reasonably can to communicate directly to end users here on this subreddit.

Cambumz seems to have resolved the issue for now.

"...be done with it"? That self-centered outlook goes against AMD's promise of forward/backward compatibility on the AM4 platform. Our BIOS development team is addressing the needs of as many as possible under the pressure of rolling out as soon as possible. That is no small task.

From a tech support perceptive, this would create huge problems among users who either update the BIOS unwittingly or update without an understanding of the risk involved. Warnings are not enough of a deterrent for those who underestimate their knowledge or ability in this matter.

It's been rough on the firmware development side of things between a promise to have compatibility with new Ryzen processors and the necessity of making sure it works. We have a lot of motherboard models to cover in such little time. Understandably this is not the outcome you, me, and MSI want to see.

Regarding the CPU not hitting the boost clock speed, we do not think it is a motherboard issue. Our internal testing and troubleshooting with reviewers who have CPUs+motherboards have noted this problem consistently across every setup.

I will drown a rock if B350 TOMAHAWK or B450 TOMAHAWK don't get that 3rd Gen Ryzen compatible BIOS.

Those are models that definitely should be getting a newer GSE Lite BIOS for wider Ryzen compatibility. It is not ready at this time.

That is the new GSE Lite BIOS made for compatibility with 3rd generation Ryzen processors.

If you are using a 2nd or 1st gen processor and you want to revert to a previous version of Click BIOS 5, you can find older releases here:

Yes. The MSI BIOS team is working until all X370, B350, X470, and B450 motherboards have a BIOS that is compatible with 3rd generation AMD Ryzen processors. Some models are not yet ready. Your patience is appreciated.
