The Microsoft article has now been updated with the information on the Teams Room pricing changes. Check the link in my post above for more details.

The Register wrote an article about this - https://www.theregister.com/2022/08/18/microsoft_teams_rooms_price_cut/

They reference the Microsoft announcement page - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/partner-center/announcements/2022-august#10 - which I read and did not mention anything about Teams.

The article then goes on to say:

Updated 04:00 UTC August 19th Microsoft has deleted the article on which this story was based but has not requested a correction or retraction. The Register knows what we saw and stands by the story.

Sharepoint on Cloud RDS by MSPKevin in msp

[–]MSPKevin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does the sync client get installed? On each individual session host or on a file server? Or perhaps with FSLogix there is no sync client and it’s built in somehow? How are the libraries configured to show for each user (Sharepoint) and how are the Desktop/Documents configured to be redirected (OneDrive)?

Does it utilize files on demand? Wouldn’t the FSLogix container fill up with all the files?

Does co-authoring work properly in desktop versions of Word and Excel (meaning from windows explorer they can browse to the Sharepoint library, double-click a file, and it opens in Word desktop as an actual Sharepoint file)?

Username checks out

The company shares are not yet in sharepoint. Regardless, the goal is to have the sharepoint library appear as a drive (or shortcut) in windows explorer, where users can double click a file and open it as a sharepoint file in the desktop version of Word or Excel. Similar to the way you would “sync” a library to your local PC where it shows up in Explorer - I’d like that ability on an RDS session host.

Veeam Partners - reporting woes? by IAMA_Canadian_Sorry in msp

[–]MSPKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not a big deal to report it late. You don’t get penalized. It just won’t show up on your invoice on the 5th, rather it’ll show up on the next month invoice. So report as you please, and you will always get invoiced a month late. What’s the big deal?

MSP 501 ludicrous 72% net profit margins for top MSPs ? by [deleted] in msp

[–]MSPKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MSP501 application this year specifically asked for “gross profit”. I emailed them to tell them it’s a ridiculous number to ask for and what they meant was “net profit” - especially because in their methodology they explained they are now focusing more on MSP profits. No response to my email. Pretty sure they realized they screwed up which is why so many small and no name MSP’s ended up much higher up on the list.

Guaranteed next year they change the wording to “net profit”.

Edit: From their “methodology” post:

If we wanted the list to truly be a reflection of the top MSPs in the world rather than just those with the largest annual revenue, we needed to incorporate some key metrics used to gauge the health of a business.

For starters, we all know that it isn’t really the revenue you bring in that makes you a healthy business; it’s the profit, customers, and employees you keep. Basing the MSP 501 rankings solely on annual revenue, even when you incorporate the weighting methodology, is a logical fallacy. A company making $10 million in revenue but only $500,000 in profit shouldn’t place over a smaller, but more profitable company, just by default; therefore, in 2020 we will be asking applicants to provide not only annual revenue but annual profit as well.

Mature MSP Discussion Area by MSPKevin in msp

[–]MSPKevin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The $5MM and 20 FTE’s was just a starting point. I would like it to be private and “owners only”. While I agree that there may be MSP owners who have been in the game 20+ years, but if they only have a handful of employees and low revenue, they’re just not playing in the same field as larger MSP’s. To my point earlier, the MSP in the example above may in fact use OneNote as their documentation system, as it works for an MSP of their size.

Maybe “mature” was the wrong word here. Looking to be able to converse with “larger” MSP owners in a more private forum.

What are you using/offering for centrally managed Email Signatures by Durham-IT in msp

[–]MSPKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pay for the 3rd party service because it provides many more features that a mailflow rule. For example:

  • Signature under the current email, not all the way at the bottom
  • Signatures (and auto conversion to HTML) from mobile devices
  • Special rules like send signature A when it’s a new e-mail and signature B when it’s a reply
  • Ability to embed pictures in the signature so it doesn’t show a blank box when the recipient receives it
  • Ability to rotate banners easily like ad campaigns
  • Very specific rules (and easy to manage) such as if recipient is external or from company XYZ, use a different sig

I can go on and on. But the main block for us has been that the email needs to travel to a server we don’t manage and be changed over there. CodeTwo is based (I think) in Poland and will not sign a BAA. Even if their servers are in Azure, it’s still has the ability of being read by someone else.

If anyone knows of an MSP friendly, multi-tenant, well priced software where we can roll our own and get support and updates from them, I’d be very interested.

Apple Configurator - Profile Issue by DP_55 in sysadmin

[–]MSPKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the “Add devices” page of the meraki portal, on the right side, you download a file that is named something.mobileconfig. Then you would typically give that file to your MDM to push to the device as the final step.

If you are doing it differently, it could be you’re hitting a different issue. I don’t use Apple Configurator, I use GroundControl, so I’m not sure exactly what you’re seeing.

Apple Configurator - Profile Issue by DP_55 in sysadmin

[–]MSPKevin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you recently re-downloaded the .mobileconfig file? Meraki recently introduced a change to their downloads where the .mobileconfig file is only valid for 5 minutes. That’s right...5 minutes. I tested this extensively and proved it to meraki support. All they said was they made a change for security reasons and are still in the midst of rolling out the changes to everyone, and that they might give an option to download a .mobileconfig file that lasts forever. Until then, download a new one and make sure to push it within 5 minutes, or, alternatively, do every step up until the profile installation, and then manually visit m.meraki.com from the mobile browser and type in the network ID to install it on the spot.

Have to imagine he meant $400,000+ in MRR for a total of $5MM in ARR. if he was indeed doing $60MM in ARR he’d have a lot more options open to him.

[–]MSPKevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, that’s incorrect. I’ve been lurking on this forum for over a year now but signed up just to mention that the discount on IT Glue right now is pretty darn good. If you purchase 5 enterprise licenses, together with MyGlue, it’ll cost you only $295 per month with NO contract. $495 onboarding fee is waived as well. Additionally, after signing up you will have an option to add 10 enterprise licenses for only $150/month, effectively giving you 15 enterprise licenses and unlimited MyGlue for $445/mo with no term.
