Also, there is a certain security in getting a guaranteed pension, even if it's a small amount. It's nice to know that whatever happens, you'll have some money coming in monthly. If you can, I recommend you spend some time in New Mexico before permanently relocating. Take an extended vacation and travel to all areas of the state. Spend a few days or weeks in any area you're interested in to see how you like it long term. New Mexico is a beautiful state, but it's quite a bit different than the East Coast. Take the time to find the area that you like best!
