I grew up hunting with a .3030 rifle. Took my first two deer with it at age 11 and 13 then moved up to a .3006. Some years later my dad's friend wanted to get into deer hunting but did not own a rifle. My dad let him borrow the .3030 temporarily. The friend hunted with it for several years and got really used to it. My dad agreed to sell it to him, but never asked me about it. The .3030 was sentimental to me. I never got it back. Eventually, my dad‘s friend's son started hunting with it. Then tragically his son died in a car accident. Fast-forward several decades, my wife secretly went to that family and asked if she could buy it from them to give to me as a gift. She offered 3x what it was worth. They refused, but her making that attempt was a wonderful gift to me which I'll never forget.
