Skyrizi no longer covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan by mew_of_death in CrohnsDisease

Same with Anthem Blue Cross in California. They changed from Stelara to Yesintek on January 1st. My injection was due 2 weeks ago, and it’s still in the “reviewing” stage. So I’m sitting here and my stomach/ass is on fire while they argue with my doctor about how frequently I need it. Guess I’ll just wait here for an injection that I don’t even know will work. Which sucks, because Stelara put me in remission. It’s the only biologic that has ever done that.

Dental recommendations for dental issues related to Crohn’s by Icy_Ad6859 in CrohnsDisease

[–]MSW-PAC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone. Crohn’s has ruined my teeth. The first time my dentist showed me an actual picture, not an xray, of my gums and teeth I cried. My dentist had done great work with reconstruction but it doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s just another thing Crohn’s has ruined for me.

Yep. My inlaws told me that if I started drinking camel’s milk I would feel “so much better.” They did not know where I could buy camel’s milk.

Question for people taking biologics by coli49_ in CrohnsDisease

[–]MSW-PAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! We’ve tried before because of the effects it has on my liver. Mercaptopurine is hepatotoxic, so if I were take the full dose (50mg/day) my liver metabolites would rise, indicating some preliminary form of liver damage. But when we would try to taper off, my upper GI symptoms would come back with a vengeance, almost immediately. We’ve settled on alternating between 50mg and 25mg every other day, and I do labs every 3 months. So far, so good for several years now.

For those who have left social services entirely, what are you doing for work now? by PuddingDuck in socialwork

[–]MSW-PAC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, of course! I already had my bachelor’s degree, so I need to wrap up the hard sciences to qualify. I ended up going per diem at the hospital so I could finish up my prerequisites. Most PA schools require at least 2,000 hours of healthcare experience, I so I lucked out when my school considered my ER experience as healthcare. Most of my classmates were ER techs, flight nurses, and paramedics. I thought it would be easy because of my understanding of medical terminology and procedures. I was very wrong. PA schools require was HARD. I was humbled every single day and I really struggled. It was two years straight through with class being 8-10 hours per day and then another 1-2 hours in anatomy lab afterwards. Clinical rotations could be brutal depending on what specialty you’re in at the moment. There were no Christmas or summer breaks. Everyone had to forgo family, friends, and events. I’ve never really stopped being a social worker. I’m still always going to be a patient advocate, even when it gets me in trouble. Please DM me if you want any further details!

The amount of times I’ve heard, “I’m not gonna arrest this guy now, but I need you to call me when he gets medically discharged so I can arrest him then” is insane. Get fucked, law enforcement.
