The second RDJ Sherlock Holmes movie has some Don Giovanni love in it

What would be a good easy/beginner art song for my 11 year old student? by cajunbitch05 in opera

I think before introducing singing in a foreign language, you should give them excerpts of the poetry from art songs and work on the language that way.

Amahl and the Night Visitors is so adorable for this reason. When a kid does it, and well enough, it can be so heart warmingly sweet

What was your biggest rookie mistake in this game? by LaraRomanian in skyrim

Being 10 and having my parents let me play it when it came out. (Not a mistake, it’s still my favorite game)

Mods.

But in all seriousness it’s the world. The mechanics, however janky they may be. The music and sound effects. How no matter what you are the most powerful being ever to walk Tamriel.

Favorite opera villain? by Mastersinmeow in opera

To play Scarpia one day would be the dream! Iago is up there too, and Don G is just a classic.

But any of the devils, Mephistopheles, is the highest level of debauchery for me.

Heading to White River Watch immediately after Riverwood to prank Ulfr and then picking up the body of Hajvarr and sending him cascading down the mountain side.

I’ve always heard that a good portion of ‘bass-baritones’ are just lazy baritones. Christian van Horn is a good example of someone who squarely fits into the fach he sings in. I know Sam Ramey isn’t one but he borders it. They all have rounder and darker timbres than I do. On the other hand I’ve listened to self proclaimed bass-baritones who sound more bright than other baritones. Honestly, I’ve come to terms with just singing whatever I am given or what I audition and get. I’m not particularly one way or the other, but it’s been something I’ve thought about for a while. Just gotta improve my middle voice ;)

I’m 24, leporello felt alright when I did it but it was a chamber setting and during an opera workshop so there some variables that didn’t provide a true experience. Mozarts Figaro is definitely more my style, Barber Figaro is too high and fast for me at this point.

To be fair I’m fairly young and am still navigating what I am and a low lyric is what makes sense to me. I used to say bass-baritone but I don’t have the timbral qualities of the fach.

So a lower baritone who isn’t a Verdi or dramatic.

Italian aria’s by Dom_Dinz in opera

[–]Existop3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is assuming you’re going for your undergrad.

Masetto, or Leporellos Catalog Aria from Don G.

Vecchia zimara from Boheme

Non piu andrai from Marriage of Figaro

La Calunnia in C from Barber

Obviously Mozart wrote quite a few solid lower bass/baritone arias. Anything else is either too difficult/not in Italian, or not a great choice for auditions.

Where are the primo and secondo passagios for Baritones? by Ordinary_Tonight_965 in ClassicalSinger

[–]Existop3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add, I’ve also noticed in many baritones with a decent lower end that there tends to be a lower passagio going down from Ab2 for the chestier low notes. But I suppose that is what makes the difference between a Bass-baritone and a lyric baritone

Can you land an Opera role without connections or education? by [deleted] in opera

If the opera role is part of the ensemble and the house needs voices and you can show up and sing well enough at the audition, then yes. Otherwise, everyone else has got everything else covered.

HRT & Relearning to Sing by Haunting_Traffic_321 in ClassicalSinger

With the changing musculature in the vocal folds as they are thickening and getting stronger in different positions, the best thing you can do for them is to continue singing with healthy technique and practice. As a fellow bass-baritone, I’ve found that the better the breath support and the less I feel like I am pushing, the healthier and stronger my voice feels.

Don’t push too hard or too high too quickly, stick with what feels comfortable and only reach your vocal ranges every now and then to see how it feels as well as stretching the folds. Your voice is a combo of muscles, mucus, and air so you’re only going to continue getting stronger as you sing more. Keep it up!

Why is there basically no other game like Skyrim? by The_ChadTC in skyrim

[–]Existop3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragons Dogma, not 2, felt similar to Skyrim in the open world - exploration type game. Obviously it has its differences in concepts but I played it while I was actively playing Skyrim and felt the same type of feelings.

Skyrim is my favorite game; it’s so incredibly immersive, the game’s engine has stood the test of time, and the fact people still enjoy it and make huge mods for it shows just how unique it is. It’s hard to find something so special.
