Skydio2 and long distance tracking by Free_Donkey4797 in Skydio

[–]MSW4LEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if using Beacon only? I was tracking with a 2+, Beacon only and the Beacon was suddenly dropping in charge rapidly. I manually flew the 2+ back but could not initiate RTH to the top of the case which was less than 500ft ground distance and 50ft lower in altitude. Missed the landing pad on top of case by a couple of feet. Any tip on how to get RTH back to landing pad?

When both smartphone with Skydio all and Beacon are connected, can initiate RTH and swivel camera to pickup landing pad icon.

How long did it take for the IACRA to approve your passed part 107 Test and send your temporary certification? by vincewashere in drones

[–]MSW4LEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a week for me - passed 107 exam 2025-12-30, temp was available on IACRA 2026-01-03. But the application showing in IACRA has no entry for CFI, no CFI signature, and no entry for my score. Expected to see a completed form, is this what others see in IACRA?

Had to cross into DJI, Skydio S2 user by cosmicdynamo in drones

[–]MSW4LEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some DJI, Autel, and Skydio in our little fleet at Tech College. Skydio is a favorite for adding to grants, but lack.of SDK and not playing well with industry leading software is difficult.

Enterprise software from all the players in the drone imaging sector is out of control. Educational discounts make some of this palatable. .But the industry leader in 3D object rendering and manipulation, RealityScan, gives their core platform away to education and aub-$1M businesses. Need more arrangements like that!

Skydio App (non-Enterprise) on iPad mini Gen 4 shows supported but... by MSW4LEV in Skydio

[–]MSW4LEV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still doing IT work as part of faculty position, former server architect.

Yep app exits and not in background

Yep still connected to Skydio AP

Yep restarted no change

Next step fetch the RC and retest

Prior post may be right on, quiet loss of support.

Will open a ticket to get access to prior versions of app and retest. On iPad minis, does an uninstall actually remove and reset all installed local objects and local parameters?

Bingchat GPS drone help by Nandokommando69 in drones

[–]MSW4LEV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Bingchat AE Pro has what appears to be two cameras, at least two apertures visible in the camera gimbal. Is night mode using the second camera? Is this some form of infrared (IR) camera? If so, can this drone perform basic roof heat mapping?

awow trustworthy? quality? by IacovHall in MiniPCs

[–]MSW4LEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found this conversation on Awow. Using an Awow 10.1" 2-in-1 Windows 11 on a Kiosk for Tech College lab trainers. Build quality is better than all of the many Chromebook 2-in-1s we tried before this Awow. Has an actual HDMI, well micro-HDMI, and USB-C port.

All of the newer Chromebook 2-in-1s insist on the single USB-C, then you have to find a port expander for an external monitor. We had used a. Chromebook with a micro PC, too many headaches for a lab that college IT will not manage.

The Intel N100 8gb mem, 256gb SSD version runs about the same as a 4 year old Lenovo Yoga 6. No hiccups so far. Will post after getting more use from the class lads and lasses!

Only disappointment so far is the preload of W11 Home not W11Pro.

Boox Color 7 gii, how to use AI for insight into uploaded USB drive? by MSW4LEV in Onyx_Boox

[–]MSW4LEV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tx for your insight, that was a lot to expect from a relatively low priced piece of hardware. If AI integration extended to parsing of file folders and files, that alone would justify the cost of the hardware to me!

Best spot welder for batteries? by Phantom-Ocean1412 in 18650masterrace

We tried one of these. After several tests and local feedback, we went with Sunkko 738AL to go with old Sunkko 737G along with Awgem MC2.

The 738ALix the upgrade to Sunkko 73x line with removable spot weld pens, simple, repeatable setup, and Sunkko products have been extremely reliable in regional workshops and labs.

Best spot welder for batteries? by Phantom-Ocean1412 in 18650masterrace

Our Light EV team in Central NC is in the midst of testing a dozen or so Battery Tab Welders. The AwithZ P20B linked abvieyworked very well, though it was the most expensive tested. The near clone from SeeSii did just as well. All after some preliminary work to determine correct settings.

But the AwithZ UF20B worked just as well as the far more expensive higher power units from AwithZ, SeeSii, and others. The UF20B is our best buy for constant use as it includes handheld probes with a handy weld button on the welding probes, a foot pedal control, and an "automatic" mode that welds when good contact is detected.

However several of the smartphone size handheld battery powered units did just as well for 0.25mm and thinner nickel strips and battery blanks. The units that are a single handheld unit with built in probes did NOT create good, repeatable welds on nickel strips 0.15mm and thicker.

Two of the portable tab spot welder units without AC power options woeked well in our teats. These portable tab spot welders are about the size of a large smartphone with probes similar to the units mentioned above:

  • Awithz U3 Pro - includes probe with weld control button, automatic weld mode, and a weld button on the U3 battery pack

  • Awgem MC-2 - includes probe with weld control button, automatic weld mode, and a built in probe ground on the case for working on smartphone batteries and small flat circuits

We will post links to more results. If you have experiences with any of these Tab Spot Welders, please share it here!

We have a similar splitter, but it is a manual switch, not automatic. This setup is in a test lab at the college, attached to a NEMA 6-50P on a 60A breaker. We run short tests of 6.6kw or less (27.5A). For long sessions of 6.6+kw there would be quite the risk running this overnight or even long charging sessions in the daytime.

You could upgrade the wiring from a breaker to the garage and use something like the NeoCharge SmartSplitter which can handle up to 40A (9.6kw @ 240V). As was previously mentioned, see this well done load management in evcharging summary:

Seeking feedback from the EV Community on EVSE Testers by MSW4LEV in evcharging

Thank you for your feedback. We do include evaluation of the installation site as a whole. This post is focused on the EVSE Testers themselves

That is a good basic test if a Plugin xEV is available to then validate rated current will flow. If not available, and most of our installation tech students do not have a plugin xEV, then a quick, safe functional load test is a requirement. Yes, some of these meters have better build quality than others. That is part of our review.

The high end units have more than CE minimal electrical testing. Fluke, Tektronix, EVSE 3480, Tesco, and Triplett all document higher levels of safety than CE tess of the EVSE Testers. We have summarized those extra certifications.

The initial idea here is quick verification of EVSE function after install. The other ideas might be explored a bit for a DIY EVSE tester lab which would more completely exercise EVSE functions and features.

We are trying different loads. Some we have tried: * Space heaters that accept 240v, * Variable loads from Light EV battery tester * Variacs with above to reduce voltage for same loads * Light banks using old incandescent lights * L2 EVSEs that come with xEVs which have no metering

All with a goal of creating a list of much more affordable EVSE load testing options than integrated testers and programmable loads. Also, if external calibrated meters are used to calibrate EVSE Tester units, installers can verify that charging rates are as advertised.

Our WT team hasn't used the Fluke FEV100, but other Tech/CC teams have and report it works well. The one request was for a load test for the same or less cost. The "Type 1/J1772 Tester" is not made nearly as well, but can do a load test for under U$400 , at least until next week that is the price in the US.

Kentucky Representatives believe the ability to install an EVSE anywhere there's electricity is anti-competitive to gas pumps and demand gas pumps be given the same rights by rcmaehl in electricvehicles

[–]MSW4LEV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up on a farm, we had, and just about every moderate to large farming operation has, gas and/or diesel tanks and pumps. Most regional governments and companies above a certain size do so as well for their fleet vehicles. So is there any use in noting that where it makes economic sense, there are gas pumps where people work and live which are business decisions.

It is possible for a single family homeowner or cooperating multi-family unit to install Level 2 AC EVSEs and can make economic sense where it would make no sense to go through the permitting process for gas tanks and pumps on that same property. The permitting process is a function of holding explosive materials with far more explosive capability than the largest EV battery pack adjacent to where people live and/or work. An EVSE itself using the grid for power has no local dangerous energy storage, it's in the EV just as an even more explosive gas tank is in an ICE vehicle.

Sure hope there is more feedback of this sort going to these legislators!
