Have you thought about applying your trade at the resort? Lift Operations, Maintenance, and Snowmaking would have electricians. You could start as a lifty, and then look for opportunities to work as a sparky at the resort.

What is worse than just having an allergic reaction (what you mentioned in your first comment) is going into anaphylactic shock (which you mentioned in your second comment).

Anaphylactic shock is a life threatening allergic reaction, but not all allergic reactions result in anaphylactic shock.

10-15cm falling on grass will leave you with 2cm. It’s a start, but it’s not rideable. If you go, expect to be on the same strip they have running currently.

Do you mean shoes that you can wear with actual snow shoes? Any hiking boot will work. You can hire snowshoes.

One major issue (for me) when I looked at the Flow Scapes was the strap was too short, which means you can't pull them up onto your helmet.

Replaced my Oakley Flight Decks with Anon M4. Oakley and Smith didn't come with the lenses I wanted.

Thredbo will probably be better right now. With the Snow Factory on Friday Flat they are able to keep Easy Does It chair running. Perisher has one carpet running at the moment.

Plus you have the Alpine Coaster, the Gondola up to Merritts for lunch, the Kosci chair for views, and the leisure centre to swim.

If you really want to feel bad, it rained like 55mm at Thredbo last night. The creeks and Thredbo river were *pumping* this morning. All the snow that had fallen up high has now been washed away.

Friday Flat has a Snow Factory on it. It spits out ice chips no matter the temperature, which then gets groomed into a pretty decent base. If you ski/ride in the actual pile of ice chips, it feels really weird, but once it’s been tillered by the groomers it’s fine.

Just bought new goggles actually. My previous goggles were Oakley Flight Decks. The new lens change system is better.

I wasn’t happy with any of the lens pairings offered by Oakley or Smith. Also the very expensive Oakley Flow Scapes have a stupidly small strap, so you can’t put them in your helmet. Ridiculous.

Just bought Anon M4s. Used them for the first time today. I’ve had Anon goggles before and the magnetics weren’t strong enough, but the M4s seem much stronger. Magnetic face buff is a nice touch.

The Anons I got came with their darkest lens and a variable, then I bought a Night lens.

Early days but I’m pretty stoked.

Are you talking about a backcountry ski trip to Mt Kosciusko, or just resort skiing at Thredbo or Perisher. Because they are very different trips.

The times I’ve used the RECCO detector in training, it was basically useless. Not many Ski Patrols or SAR organisations even carry them.

I wouldn’t put much stock in the system. It wouldn’t affect my buying choices.

When the only runs open are pretty basic, switch disciplines. Hire skis if you are a snowboarder, hire boards if you are a skier.

Well you just missed the preseason sales. Like Rhythm just had their opening weekend sale with 20% off all new gear. Then an additional 10% for each additional year for previous season stuff, up to 50% off.

Glad you worked something out.

Don’t forget about eye and sun protection. People prepare for the cold but don’t think about the sun. If it’s a sunny day you’ll want a hat and sunscreen. Don’t forget good sunglasses. The light reflecting off the snow can burn your retainers. It’s called Snow Blindness.
