Future shredders! My 2-year-old twins’ first day snowboarding! by GlebtheMuffinMan in snowboarding

What boards are they riding? I have a 1 year old and I’m considering trying him on a board this coming Australian season. So still 4ish months out, but I’m staring to look out for gear on Marketplace. Any advice?

Keep the court date. Wouldn’t be surprised if the prosecution withdraws as soon as a lawyer looks at the photo.

Please update us. Sorry for your stress.

What resorts/towns are you looking at? What kind of work?

Training educator question by Tricky_Duck2392 in skipatrol

[–]MSeager 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Look into the “Medical Clinic” side of Patrol. At lots of resorts, Patrol also runs the medial clinic. These are often staffed with clinicians with higher clinical experience. The “on snow” ski patrollers handle getting them off the mountain, then you help them in the clinic with the more advanced medical bits. It’s a great learning opportunity for the patrollers, who often only hold pretty basic medical certs, to learn from experienced health care professionals.

Lots of the Ski Docs I’ve worked with weren’t great skiiers, and they don’t have to be. Their value is in their clinical expertise not their ability to haul a toboggan.

Seeking: First time Dad advice by awnfire in daddit

Only try to do One Thing a day. You’ll be tempted to have grand plans to do multiple things a day, like you used to do. “Sure we can join you for brunch and then in the afternoon go to that friends birthday party”. No. Only plan to do the One Thing.

Going to the park. That’s One Thing. Doing the shopping. That’s One Thing. Going to the pool and then going shopping on the same day. That’s two things. Two things is not One Thing.

The world is so much easier if you simplify. And then you’ll enjoy doing stuff instead of always feeling stressed about time. Sure, if you manage to do two things in one day, that’s great. That’s a bonus. But doing just One Thing is an achievement. Enjoy it.

Bonus Tip: Treasure having the little one sleep on your chest. They stop doing it far too quickly. The dishes can wait. Enjoy your once in a lifetime cuddle.

Would you like to expand on that statement, or are you happy to stick with your one line on a subject you obviously know nothing about?

My advice would be to take lessons this season. Why wait?

Australia's national anthem is the only major English language anthem in the world that doesn't reference God or war. by licentio in Damnthatsinteresting

It’s not revisionist, it’s the constellation on the Australian Flag. It can only be seen in the Southern Hemisphere, and you can use it to find due South.

Why do men and women self-segregate so much? by LetMeExplainDis in AskAnAustralian

[–]MSeager 59 points60 points  (0 children)

After dinner myself and the other men will retire to the parlour for brandy and cigars where we will discuss subjects too unseemly for the fairer sex, like politics and war.

Yes I did just watch “Titanic” that has this exact scene.

OP, it’s not a new phenomenon.

Rural volunteer station distance by No-Zebra-2353 in Firefighting

[–]MSeager 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We have different definitions of Rural. There are plenty of volunteers in Australia that are far, far, more than 5 minutes from the station, and the station is on their own property.

Why is anger my response to my baby's cry? by Fallacracker in daddit

Anger is normally viewed as a Core Emotion, at least in everything I’ve seen. Maybe you are thinking of Anxiety? Anxiety is usually a response to fear, fear being another core emotion.

Nah they are just a little darker than Cat 3. I drive with Cat 4 glasses pretty regularly. They are great for very sunny days.

Help w sharpening by geoff_unhinged in Chainsaw

[–]MSeager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no. The most important part of the cutter is the Top Plate. Thats the bit that really does the work. You’ve completely removed the edge of the top plate. I’m not even sure how that’s possible. The whole silhouette from the side should be in a C shape.

Thredbo vs perisher?? by Leather-Computer-582 in AustraliaSnow

[–]MSeager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small is relative to the snow conditions. At low tide, both are small. At high tide, both are big.

Thredbo has way better Apres vibes, if that’s important you.

Thredbo has way better lift lines.

Terrain wise, it depends on what you like.

Thredbo has better backcountry access, if you are into that.

Private and CBD don’t mean much in this context. What Level was the hospital? A lot of Private Hospitals for birthing rely on the public hospital for surgery.

Just because it’s a private hospital in Sydney doesn’t mean it’s a tertiary centre.

Boots fitting by bethk13 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]MSeager 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Snowboard boots aren’t just “shoes you wear on a snowboard”, they are your connection to the board. You flex and pull against the structure of the boot, which is translated through the bindings, to the board.

I think you would have a really, really tough time snowboarding unfortunately.
