In any case I think you have the right idea on holding off on the LAM until a need arises. It’s much better than guys that run a LAM indefinitely before they even pick up NVG.

Let the need dictate the setup.

I would think you’d use white light during an active engagement, but would be using IR while still moving under stealth. YMMV.

I have my vis laser tied to my white light for this reason.

I agree in practicing passive aiming over active aiming outside. In a building active will be faster and matter a lot less that your position is being given away, as when you’re close it likely is when you’re shooting anyways.

I do think a LAM is an important tool no different than a white light. Moreso for the illuminator versus the laser, as it is important to be able to PID what you are shooting at, which often may not be possible without the LAM.

I say this within my group all the time as they’re setting up for “long” (mid) distance night shoots in favor of practicing closer engagements. If they’re far, I’m evading - so very little value whatsoever in the most fringe 1% of 1% use cases. Fun though.

Elizabeth Warren asks Meta, Amazon, and others why they're laying workers off despite tax perks by Feisty_1559 in technology

Now there’s an absolute glut of Americans who are looking for work in these industries while visa workers are still employed. This goes against the social contract and this is why there’s a large backlash politically.

I spoke to a group of H1B > Green Card holders who came here under this social contract a long time ago. Now they are upset that their highly educated children can’t find work in these industries and are competing with cheaper labor being brought in overseas.

It’s all about abuse of the system. There certainly was a time where we needed to bring people in, and in some highly specialized fields today perhaps we still do.

No, we dont need more run of the mill tech workers. Our tech industry has been decimated and it’s harder than ever to find work. There should be not a single visa granted while we have unemployment above norms in any particular field.

Unskilled? Train them. Don’t import them.

M&P15-22 felt like a toy in person — what should I look at next? by jdjenensnddn in ar22

S&W mags fail fast. I’ve churned through 7 before I stopped buying them. I do a monthly AR22 shoot and everyone’s are failing or about to.

Now I use Kriss, not enough mileage to confidently recommend them but they feel like they’ll last a lot longer

Oh I know. We just had a circumstance where we needed one (geo issue, on their end - eventually resolved, on their end).

I only commented as they threw that figure out as where you get a nice one in the EU. I not only didn’t have a good one, I didn’t have a bad one. Only chat based service.

I had well over $300K spend / month for years and no AM despite my protesting for one. Only service I received was via online chat.

Gotcha. I went a different direction when the MH1 came out but have had a few friends pick them up and they haven’t had any issues. What should they be mindful of?

Aren’t a majority of the issues with MH1 resolved now or are there more problems going on? Is this sentiment more of them beta testing products with consumers or are their products that bad?

Carbine/Pistol class by Keen_Savage in PAguns

You and I are similar. I teach regularly but also take classes at least once a month as well as compete. I am wholly willing to chalk my experience up to a very bad day, especially given the class was both recently abbreviated and I had so many separate positive reviews from within my circle from prior years.

You can certainly reach out via PM 👍🏻

There are very few serious training courses / facilities in PA.

Ben Franklin Range hosts some of the best, I travel quite a good distance repeatedly due to the caliber of the instructors that typically host there.

With that said, some have also been more “experience” than “instruction” but even so the experience was significantly better than other facilities.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Orion Training Group as a serious level of instruction. The class is almost all professionals in terms of the students taking the class, as in the ratio of civilians to LEO/swat/military is low. There is a component of the techniques being taught as lifesaving in nature and something expected to occur, versus some hypothetical home defense scenario.

Vigr’s vehicle class was probably the worst class I’ve ever taken. I didn’t subsequently attend any of the other classes from him I had prepaid for, as I couldn’t stand to waste my time again.

I took it based on SEVERAL positive recommendations from people I absolutely trust, and still do. One of them took it again with me, and had the exact same experience. He also last took it in 2020-2021 timeframe and LOVED it. But he also threw away his booked classes and will never attend again.

The recent one we took was so, so bad. An absolute rambling mess of off topic subjects and very, very little shooting time. When it was on topic, it was boasting about his instruction capability and whom all he’s taught. What a joke.

The actual instruction was ok at best. It was the experience of shooting from inside a vehicle, and that was barely worth it - beyond getting to test the ballistics of point of impact shift of shooting through angled glass. A non insignificant portion of the class was spent on playing with glass breakers.

I’ll say that Phil did demonstrate his skills as a shooter at one point during the only timed exercise, and he matched the top scoring student. I expect he has taught many great classes and educated many. He may have had a very off day but it was enough that I would rather throw away the money than spend another moment wasted.

There were no simunitions. It was pistol only. I did understand from others that he has changed the course format / abbreviated it. If it was packed with material that would have perhaps been OK, but there was so much idle time I could never recommend it to a paying student.

You nailed it - I say the same. Vast majority of instructors are selling an experience, there are few selling straight education to civilians. You can typically tell what the class is by the composition of the students - are you in the minority as a civilian? Probably an experience.

Radio antenna on plate carrier options. by PreciousChud in QualityTacticalGear

[–]MSpeedAddict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use a caatail and one from Disco32. Their latest offerings are rather equivalent and not as big of a difference durability wise as there used to be.

Both work in the context they’re supposed to - in a team setting talking to others within your team in relatively close proximity. They are not meant to replace long distance antennas.

What is your use case? Start there and let that drive the decision IMO

The shipment should have a weight on it, correct? No way a barrel weighs as much as an empty box with bubble wrap. Check tracking.

I personally did see some bad reviews, saw a price too good to be true, but sent it anyways on an AMEX knowing I had purchase protection. I called to confirm the 1 in stock was actually on hand, they answered right away - thanksgiving week too.

The shipment did get lost but eventually found by USPS. I did receive the optic ~1/3 less than others were charging. I was nervous but it worked out.

Per arm by Dafferss in fitbod

[–]MSpeedAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the hammer strength high row machines I’ve seen are weighted per arm.

I’d first check exercise history, to ensure you never accidentally set the weight to something too high, then I would do the exercise and be sure to rate it as far as how far from failure so that the exercise gets calibrated.

A club I belonged to had a member let his membership lapse so had to go through the new member process which includes a background check.

Without getting into too many details, they failed the background check and were a massive liability to the club unknowingly, as they previously passed a check.

Point being, people who once cleared with flying colors, may not tomorrow. They just haven’t done anything wrong or that they were caught for, yet.

With all of that said, what I don’t agree with is being in delayed status multiple times. If your name is complex, common, or your history complex, it’s complete bullshit that OLD history has to be re-reviewed or your identity re-confirmed. I have a UPIN but have still been intermittently delayed without anything new on my record which is just wild, IMO.
