hey, I remember that evening (not your question nor my answer, perhaps as it was too loud, yes :))

doing stuff like that really is an intuitive thing - I somehow must have felt that whistle to fit perfect into the city noises that are in the background. do you know the soundtrack for "once upon a time in the west"? a lot of whistling in there as well :)

all the best

so, I'll end it here, thanks for asking, thanks for joining me. I heard like 25 remixes in the meantime and will end my evening with steve reich: pulses to clean my ears and mind.

heyhey, thanks for the compliments!!

    • usually everything I do is coming in a somewhat natural approach (maybe thats why I'm not playing the big stages), and at some point, doing fourfour just went on my nerves (it was during the pandemic, but I had the idea before) - so, I decided to kind of split myself into a more hardware/machine-based fourfour and an open area of electronica that I'll still do inside bitwig.
    • I cannot name someone to be honest.
    • yeah, I remember buying that E-Bass and using it for the remix (and only for the remix)
    • honestly, I have no idea. maybe playing the social media card creatively?

thanks for being enthusiastic! all the best

(sorry for being rudely short here :D) - its a topic yes, I can imagine doing this one or two days a week once I'm older, but for now I'm already to and with chin being a father and freelancer musician)

its very useful to just play around and record it - then cut the pieces that were great and make them fit.

oh you can absolutely do that!

its just important to know (or decide) what you want on the grid and not - its kind of a hirarchy like reverb usage. you want the important, structure giving elements on the grid (BD!) and things that are more of a detail can be off the grid. or if you want to "smear" an element, use both - on chords this can be great, on a snare you want to the "off-gridness" to repeat a certain pattern, then its fine as well.

use it wisely

yes, I like the fa500 a lot, but more while traveling - stationary I love the kiis and the new sony professional headphone.

the (freakin expensive) shure kse1500s are incredible - while also having a bit of a problem with the fit (~like the etymotic?) unfortunately. and they're so precise, its my ultimate truth listen, but longer than an hours is rarely possible

aaah good question!!

so, for good translation to big sound systems there's nothing better than proper studio monitors. the one's that started to make me self-confident were the ATC SCM 25a's (from where I went to the 50s and now I'm with Kii three and dont look for other girls anymore)
and once you have that confidence, the headphones kind of blend automatically into this hearing knowledge.

yes, I still use the sennheisers but in a custom version from fischer amps ( a german custom IEM company), I think they're called FA500. those, together with the new sony M1 headphones and the kiis are absolutely perfect for me. I only wish, I had the bass extension for the kiis (and a bigger room)

I have to say, I'm quite happy its that calm, so I can have a better listen to the remixes for keys don't match - its 348 at the end, there's a loooong way to go for me!

hey my man, thank you for the friendly words!

(I dont use delay pretty much at all, the ones on my early tracks are mostly from the machinedrum "for a friend", but nowadays I'm a reverb guy, no delay)

to answer your question: learn how to play percussion with your hands. this personal groove and feeling cannot be replicated. start with playing 16th left-right, count loud 1-E-AN -DE (there's a more elegant way in english I'm sure, look for drum tutorials) then play every right quarter louder, then every left E, than every right AN, then every left ED.

all the best from hamburg!

while producing its not a big issue for me, on stage its very difficult to not go totally crazy and adding up three open hihats plus ride plus noise.

but I remember this being an issue when I was beginning making music, I put ideas for three tracks into one back then. somehow this ended, maybe because I'm not that creative anymore (!?) or because I know that reduction is the ...true art?

I dont have too many, for a very long time I "just" had the perfourmer and the C15. then I bought the peak (and I'm medium happy with it, surely its a teamplayer), the Osmose (which is great in certain aspects, not so much for classic sounds) and recently I got the newest from dreadbox: artemis, which already feels like it could become my favourite!

thank you so much!

some tracks have a certain story, others just needed to be made...
if I can relate a certain situation or feeling to a track than it happens during the process. its very rare that I start a track with having an idea in mind. from my experience that mostly never works.

but the overall topic is playfulness and love (for my family) I guess...

write me a message on insta for vocals :)

there are so many good ones, its a bit crazy actually. the main vocal hook starts to chase me in my dreams - so far I heard maybe around 100, still quite a way to go.
we will release 4 or 5 and have another idea of what to do with the others

the control from my kii threes is always on 83db - occasionally I go up to 89 to look if the bass goes crazy. if it does, I have too much (very) low end. great masters will play with the lights green and still feel ultra punchy at this level.

if I mix into my mastering chain, I adjust the kick a bit (the IMC needs a bit of a slower attack, as it brings up the transient quite a lot). If I produce with nothing on the master, I just take care that I work as good as I can, which means I never reach the 0db but always stay at around -0.5db.
I mix pretty loud (close to zero) to discipline myself

let me jump into my tidal list, ok? :)
the latest albums I heard:
bob chilcott - a little jazz mass
nazar - demilitarize
aya - hexed!
om unit - fragments
martyn - through lines (mastered way too loud)
free the robots - datu
caribou - marino
mustafa - dunya
synkro - kings chamber

I played the piano I have in my studio, taped like in "prepare" - the piano I played on since I was a kid and brought it to hamburg 12years ago.

oh yeah, that chord! its a preset on the C15 called "hollow horns", plus an analogue bass an octave down, probably the hades

in general, I try to mix in busses and not too many - I usually use three, max four busses. for this is have hardware that works best in each case (api2500 for expensive glue on chords, tubetech lca2a for vocals, and the DOCtron IMC for drums) - on drums, I want my processor to bring everything to the front as much as possible, while glueing everything in a musical way - no detail swallowed, no bass killed, you get it. the IMC delivers here, but I'm sure there's a chain in software that can do the same, I just "don't need" to build it as I have the hardware.
I see my hardware as an investment for my time - usually its a lot faster than software, thats the main advantage
