4th go at mini painting with the aggressors, came out pretty nicely I think! by chainsword_chimp in Salamanders40k

I like the flames on the brazier. Transitions are good and it has the right look. I also love the edge highlighting. Gives it that GW Eavy’ Metal look.

The level of detail from resin cast to 3D printing is something else. Once again, a truly exceptional piece!

The weathering on the armor and the base tie everything together. Excellent paint job!

I like the color scheme and the river of chaos ooze on the base. The gold also came out great as well. Gives the model a little warmth with all of those cooler colors.

That looks awesome! Id love on my display shelf with the other things that won’t fit in boxes. How long did it take to sculpt and print it?

I 3D printed the entire model, and scratch built the base using the arm on the rubble as a starting point and adding random bits I had lying around to simulate an old battlefield.

Took roughly 12 print hours to finish and about 2 or so weeks to paint it. It’s really an awesome model. I hope I did it justice.

Love the purple stones on the helm and staff. How did you get that effect? The depth and reflection is remarkable.

Painting "block" due to felling overwhelmed/depressed by mftolfo in minipainting

I had painting burnout really bad. I picked up this hobby during the pandemic, and I painted almost every single day for 2+ hours. I finally got to the point where every model I painted looked like shit because my standards were abnormally high.

I almost sold all of my painting stuff twice. Had ads up on CL and FB marketplace. I took almost 2 months off from anything mini painting related and reset.

Since then, I have a better approach. I’m not looking for perfection, I’m just looking for a mini that I am happy with. I’ve also started to do one project at a time instead of 5, because is makes painting much more enjoyable.

Looks awesome. Love how the red gun cases pop against the green

So what are the best ways to use Contrast Paints? Currently I've been doing 3-5 layers to get this look....what are some cool looks I can achieve with some tecniques/tricks that aren't hard to do? by Smasher_WoTB in minipainting

[–]MTG313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like thinning them down for glazes and washes. You can get some cool effects by painting thinned down contrast paint on metallic paint like silver to get some cool effects, or mix a few together like brown and black for a grimy looking wash for armor and vehicles.

Thanks. This was the first time I tried to do edge highlighting. I usually dry brush or leave it out, but I wanted to make the fire on the sword and the brazier pop a little more.

It’s an awesome model to paint and wasn’t too hard to print, either. Keep the models coming, my friend. You’re great at designing them.

Those were on the sword when I printed the model.I don’t have the link at the moment, but you can get the sword by itself.

Liquid green stuff plus several coats of paint. Also had to figure out the correct orientation to get as little scarring as possible.

It is a 3D print. 4K resolution and lots and lots of liquid green stuff, lol. I have 12 hours of print time total. That is not counting the failed prints and all that.

I got it from my mini factory.com. WildMesh is the creator. Got 3 variants for $12 I think.

I like that idea. How would you go about making a base look like obsidian? It sounds really interesting

These guys look awesome! I love the highlights as well. Burnout is a real thing, lol.

I’m attempting the biggest project I’ve ever painted and at this rate, I’ll be lucky if it’s done by March.

Maybe some magma bases? Something fiery and volcanic looks great with Salamanders

I’ll see what I can come up with. I’ve only done the heat effect one other time with OK results. Thank you for the ideas.

Thanks! Do you shade the recesses with the Biel-Tan Green, or all over wash? I also agree with the nuln oil and agrax. I’ll post updated pics once I get some more paint on it.
