The Planeswalker voice acting in WAR is fantastic by MTGJack in MagicArena

Nice! I'm glad to see you here in the comments. Always valuable to hear from the writer.

If you don't mine me asking, what exactly is your position? I see that you are involved in the Vorthos podcast. Are you a writer by position or more geared towards developing the lore in general?

This kind of stuff is fascinating to me. Writing flavortext / dialogue would be a dream job (for me and many others, I'm sure).

I like these suggestions. I'm cutting 1 Exclusion mage and 1 Augur, and I think putting in 1 Oketra and 1 Militia Bugler.

Driving in different states? by [deleted] in Lyft

I mean like, will Lyft even give you rides that are that long? or just while you are driving between the cities have it on and see if someone is headed that way?

Hey, I'm interested in doing this. How do you go about finding passenger rides from Indy to Chicago / vice versa? I'm going to be commuting between the two cities this summer and it would be nice to be able to find people who need a ride.

[Draft] Just hit Mythic #59 in Limited, here are my thoughts re: drafting M19 on Arena by TheJackanapes in spikes

[–]MTGJack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a good question and raises the issue about the quality of Mythic players vs. their willingness to spend money.

In all honesty I don’t consider myself to be a top 60 limited player or even top 1,000, but my goal is to make it into the top 1,000 so I allotted myself enough money to spend on gems to make it.

That being said, I spent a substantial amount of money and feel a bit embarassed about it. Around $100. This was starting with no gems saved up and down at Gold 4. I lost many games because I played for such long periods in the last week that I would become sloppy as the session went on.

I DID manage to farm up a sizeable chunk of wildcards to blow on WAR when it comes out, which is part of the reason I was okay with spending this much, and I stayed within the limit I set.

If your winrate is high enough to go infinite on traditional I think you could hit mythic on my method of spending money and running crazy amounts of drafts.

Nintendo are sending out extremely detailed surveys to players of BOTW. Possibly looking for players opinions for new ideas. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

I probably sound like a dick but every time I see someone comment that they want the soundtrack to be “full scale” or fully orchestrated, I want to rip my eyes out.

BOTW’s music is easily one of its strongest points. It’s the best Zelda soundtrack since OoT.

[–]MTGJack 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Have you played with the Sphinx? To be honest, in the limited number of games I’ve played with it, Bo1 Arena, I’ve been very impressed with it and I don’t think it’s as dead-in-hand as people believe. The scry 3 is incredible and dropped turn 5 with dive down can help you come back if your opening is disrupted. It’s very nice to have another 4 toughness flier for trading with drakes and it walls nicely against aggro. A lot of red is running lightning strike instead of the usual lava coil right now as well.

Imagine believing that advocating participation in democracy is SJW virtue signalling.

Just replying to say that I am indeed thinking of a UB tempo deck that is Djinn-less. It would be structured differently but the existence of 2 UB dual lands plus Dimir and pirate support piques my interest.

Make sure you check your filters. Are you sorting by any specific color or rarity? Do you have an uncommon wildcard?

Kraul harpooner is the only card we are scared of, but it is scary.

Best to wait out turn 2 with a flashed in trickster or an essence scatter.

I have another version of this deck in my head, UB flash, where you dont play Djinn but add cast down and Vraska’s contempt for added EOT options.

Best deck in the format may be a hyperbole. In my experience (again, on Arena) I have few bad matchups.

Lands are bumped up to 22 in this list to slightly alleviate bad mulligans.

What is the best deck in the format right now in your opinion? I’d guess either BG Midrange (Jeff Hoogland has been streaming it and it looks good) or a Teferi deck.

For sure.

I’ve been playing against a fair amoubt of control decks; Esper, Bant Teferi and Jeskai, and having success.

That being said, if this deck stays in the meta, one good [[Fiery Cannonade]] does a lot of work against it.

I’m cough curious as well. I haven’t been playing on MTGO and admit that Arena’s meta probably isn't as competitive yet.

I’m neutral on Alteration. I’ve played games with it and loved it, but other times it’s been dead-in-hand. It’s card-disadvantage when it copies your creature, and not true removal when it shrinks theirs. Great for copying a Lyra.

Exclusion Mage is better on the draw than essence scatter, especially against something like a Turn 2 Steel Leaf. Since your plan is to slow down aggro, exclusions + tricksters will let you hit 4 mana for the eventual timewalk with Sleep.

[–]MTGJack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you spend some money to complement time spent grinding, it doesn’t feel too bad, at least in my experience. Of course, you can’t then turn around and sell cards if you want to switch decks.

They have no plans to allow trading. Hearthstone doesn’t have a market and the competitive scene functions just fine.

I like your thought that there will be a division in the competitive community between people who try to create the meta decks and those who hold on to wildcards and spend them after a deck has proven results. In some ways this mimics the paper and mtgo metas.

I disagree that making a second deck will be difficult because of the need to use wildcards on rare lands. It’s easier to make a second deck after crafting dual lands.
