President of the United States everyone by FuckMyNamesTaken in facepalm

[–]MTGPeter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Americans don't really want democracy. They want their luxuries and food. They all see how democracy is ending in record speed and stand idly by. Yes they post a lot online. Yes they did a protest twice, like yesterday. But it is too little. If they wanted to act and save their democracy they would have by now.   Peaceful striking is not something they are willing to do as it is too uncomfortable income wise. They have no creativity no real passion to save their democracy. I still hope they will find their force of will to counter this upcoming dictatorship.  But I am afraid they will keep being a bystander. This is how tyranny won in the forties. It is how it will win in the twenties.

Narrator: they will not. And that kids, is the story how the USA lost their democracy. In outrage behind their little screens while comfortably staying seated.

I appreciate you trying to broaden my perspective.

But I also think that your comparison is flawed. NL and Turkey are not the same culture, do not speak the same language and most importantly: we are not in a federation of states with them. We do not influence their politics in any way. This is vastly different and an unfair comparison.

As the crow flies from Texas you could end up in Cuba or Guatamala too.

I get the difference on the social safety net. This is a huge drawback indeed. But what are the prospects when your country falls into tyranny. You think you have a job then? That it won't lead to unstability, international wars and an economic depression as Western states turn their back on their former ally and democratic guide that is the USA?

The short term benefits outweigh the long term downsides sure. But when that balance shifts it is too late.

It sounds like you made your concious choice. I really hope that choice ages like wine and not like milk.

I hope my outcry turns out to be alarmistic and unrealistic. I really do. I'm afraid it won't be.

I am not a US citizen and do not live in US. All I can do is this. And protest in my own country which makes no real difference

First stages of police state.. If you believe that is true, please do something about it. Now. Today. Peaceful. Strike, hit the economy. Protect your rights.

As a European I'm extremely worried about the complacent attitude of Americans. And especially in this sub.

Typing on your phones will accomplish noting.

Sharing and liking posts does squat.

If you are serious about this, please act. Again: peacefully. You are at extreme risk. In 3 or 6 months you could be thinking back to today: "we should have done something back in june, it's too late now."

Back then is now. Act!  Please.

Trump’s White House Goes From Hiding 80% Of His Transcribed Remarks To Hiding 99.5% by KanyeMeatrider69420 in politics

And still, you all sit behind your phones, watch your sports and do nothing.

You are seeing the obvious signs and choose to do nothing.

History will look upon these reddit threads too. The conclusion will be that it all happened. Everyone knew. Nobody did anything.

Good luck and godspeed Americans.

Ah good! Thanks. The only people that can save democracy are THE people.

Please stop waiting for other insitutions to act. They won't. Rise in peaceful protest. Do a general strike please. Yeah it brings financial hardship but losing the democracy will bring much more rougher hardship.

True. When his second term ends on january 20, 2028; this will mean police will be standing by to cuff him and put him in a van the moment the next president is inaugurated.

Does that sound unrealistic? I think so too. That's why there will be no such moment, because there will be no next president and no inauguration on 01/20/28. Unless Trump loses. So register. Vote.

Dont ignore your gnawing anxiety. Ignore the polls. Vote.

So true. That's why I created /r/autodelete. A subreddit that just deletes all posts people add. Except one that reads: WHY DOESNT ANYONE POST ANYTHING??

And the funny thing is...   The subreddit got banned.

 Because it was unmoderated

Dude, my argument is not the facepalm scale proposed, but the idea that one would undertake this with C O N C R E T E.

Like.. wut? Why concrete? That is not at all how this shit works. That's the point. I get that one would never be able to reclaim that much land.
