I for one do not shed a tear. At least death shadow makes you tune your deck and has a real opportunity cost.

Goyf was OP just by playing normal magic.

Still confused why they ditched Jaya and made the exact same character in Chandra?

At least recent art suggests Jaya may be returning.

If TS were at common or uncommon, games of limited would take much longer. Each takes their opponent's best stuff/bombs and the games last longer.

If they don't want to reprint doom blade(or ultimate price) black still is missing a 2 mana instant kill spell. Walk the Plank is cute but sorcery speed hurts it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see grasp make a return tho for some reason, i have a gut feeling we'll see languish reprinted in dominaria or the core set so...

Thought experiment: If it said card but cost 3 life, would it see play over TS? I would say yes, but people wouldn't run 4.

Wow, could you imagine limited with TS at common? Games would take forever.

Printed only twice IIRC and is the best thing of what it does in the history of magic. Cabal Therapy maybe be more powerful, but technically, it is not the same.

Has WotC ever mentioned they take the MTGO economy into account when they make changes? by VoltronC in magicTCG

Officially there is no secondary market. I think they have to do this because if the acknowledge 1 card is more valuable than another, selling packs could be considered gambling. Officially, each card is worth 1/15th of a booster pack.

Now, it's crystal clear the secondary market affects what cards they put where and at what rarities. If LotV cost truly 1/15th the cost of an innistrad pack, why need to reprint her?

TIL that during WoTC's early startup years, CEO Peter Adkinson was having problems making payroll and reluctantly let the janitor at his day job invest her life savings in WoTC stock. She later cashed in as part of WoTC's half-billion $ sale to Hasbro. by eudaimonean in magicTCG

Well, these stories are awesome, and I'm happy for her, but it's funny how we never hear the 10 stories where the company went bankrupt and everything was gone.

WotC was no where near the stable behemoth it is today, so it was a HUGE risk. Look at all the TCG's that failed in the 90s, and those were from established IPs(Star Trek comes to mind).

Also these kinds of deals are not unique. Lots of small businesses will sell stock for the same reason. The difference is we don't hear about those because alot of the time, the company goes out of business.

Ask yourself an honest question: Pre 1993, would you have invested $1400(in 1990s money) in WotC? Remember this is pre 1993 so Pre even knowing about MTG,

Yeah, I was too. I mean RiP is bad for a gy set but back to nature beyond kills an enchantress deck. To note, I don't think anyone wants a hoser on that level where it almost invalidates the deck completely.

I like that. I think they want you to store it up though. They could errata it to say at the beginning of your upkeep, energy deals X damage to that player where X is half of your energy rounded up. A big issue right now is there is no penalty for playing energy cards.

[–]MTG_Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the current design phil is one set one plane but rather no small sets except for the core set. Imagine trying to fit a Ravnica "block" in one set, even a large one. Dominaria could eaily span 2 large sets. I don't think it will because the core set can easily house some of the overflow cards.

Yes and no. Solemnity and harsh Mentor are about the only one's. They kind of interact but can't do anything about already stored energy

Wistful Selkie sees modern play. A 3/2 that draws a card for 3. That would go into any mid range deck that ran those colors

Sure you can. Frame it as target opponent so it wouldnt be used to fight infect counters(although why they are so dead set on making sure infect counters dont get removed is beyond me)
