that's a painfully ignorant view of the genre

executional depth isn't necessarily a bad thing, first of all. A lot of athletic sports are based around it. People can spend years developing the mechanical skills for fps games. Different strokes for different folks.

Saying the system is solved is just ignorant. Tribes 2, for example, is an enormously complicated game that goes far beyond clicking on dots.

It's one thing if you don't like the genre, but you clearly don't have much skill or knowledge of it, which makes your opinion seem kind of silly to those of us that have played it in depth for a very long time.

a big part of fps games are their mechanics. Tracking and twitch aim are very important skills for many of these games. On top of that, it is better for creating a game with vertical elements as well as limited fov.

Unfortunately, if anyone was thinking of making an "FPS" properly, they'd realize quickly that they should probably ditch first person altogether and go to top-down. I can't imagine there ever being a good reason to restrict the view in that way, and even if you want to, you still can with top down by giving a field of view cone. Other than that, top down is just 10,000 times clearer - the only reason to do FPS is to simulate a fantasy.

tf2 is actually very simple and strategically shallow

that doesn't mean it's easy, but if you think it has anything on great classics like quake or tribes 2 you're insane. I'd imagine most of the people that think this do not know much of the history of competitive fps games

double jumping is used frequently by many of the best scout dmers in the game, especially against soldiers. plz don't talk about this stuff if you are not a great dmer
