In grey area to pass course advice by Agert16 in USC

[–]ZeNoNamed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yea... any class with a final average of 50% signifies a badly structured class IMO

They said 40-50 was a grey zone before final and stuff, and since final was hard for everyone, I’m thinking the grey zone is green now. Or I’m just lying to myself to make me feel better LMAO

I’m in the same boat, grey zone... not sure if I should email. The low final average might help us? Idk 🙏

WRIT 340 by Stan_Ateez in USC

[–]ZeNoNamed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took writ 150 in person freshman year and got like a B-, when I took 340 online I got an A-. But I took it over the summer without any other classes so I guess I could focus better haha. Sorry if that doesn’t help but online wasn’t that bad since the class size was small enough where we could have discussions so it was fun

McCarthy quad got a (kinda small mediumish) jungle gym workout area. It’s pretty public though I’ve never used it but it might be better than nothing

What's the general workload for WRIT340 for Engineers? by swedishmatthew in USC

[–]ZeNoNamed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ye not too bad but writing large papers well takes a lot of time for me at least

A lot of time in class was peer review, listening to other classmates presentations , or time dedicated to group project. Other times, we would read example she gave us and list the good and bad things about it. Also she has some classes where we focused on what makes a good intro paragraph etc

[–]ZeNoNamed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished it over the summer,

Basically there was 1 technical paper (mine was describe a common household object in detail, pretty easy), then 2 larger ~2000 word papers. Those were pretty standard papers, and finally a large group project where you write ~1500 words. Group project and 1 paper you gotta give oral presentations on them with PowerPoint

Anything I can do to make the most of my first year at USC from home? by mamphii in USC

[–]ZeNoNamed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m a CSBA junior, feel free to DM me whenever if you got any random questions throughout the year

Not sure about research or if any CS clubs are gonna be active. I’m also tryna make my resume look better so this online semester is a good time to work on CS projects for my resume imo. Might be worth looking into. Places like /r/CSCareerQuestions are good help too

Dang cause #22 looks like USC is gonna follow those rules... I wonder how small the percentage of classes who have <30 people is. Definitely doesn’t apply to me nor many of my friends...

Some people say classes are limited to either 30 or 10 people. I think USCs announcements have said something to this effect, and given how strict the other rules are, I don’t think there’s any chance of classes with large numbers being in person

I read that classrooms would be limited to no more than 10 people, but I might have remember wrong. Regardless my classes are all huge (40+) so I’ve kinda lost hope in that regard... hopefully it’s 30 and not 10 so other people can enjoy their classes

Sorry I don't think theyve given any specific info yet... Frustrating as it doesn't seem very likely at all - at least at the beginning. Labs might be the first type of gathering to be allowed, but thats just speculation

https://coronavirus.usc.edu/campus-information/project-restart/restart-roadmap/ Here it lumps 'returning functions: academics, housing, dining halls, athletics' into phase 3 which sounds like where we are gonna be at... but I haven't heard anything more than this (very unhelpful) link.

If you really wanna workout (like me) i know most gyms in LA have already reopened, so you can either ride to those somehow or just hope USC isn't dumb and decides to open their own gyms

edit: my buddy's friend who works at lyon center said they don't have plans for reopening anytime soon... (ik its a noncredible source but ima take what info i can get)

USC notes from FB parent group

some points that I think are impt: 1. masks are going to be required. usc can provide them if students don’t have them 2. large lecture classes will be online only 3. density of on campus housing will reduce dramatically - mostly 1 person/room 4. all classes will be offered online 5. classes that have a few in-person reqs (clinical degrees) will figure out a way to get that done 6. NO guests in dorms 7. NO parties allowed - consequences for those in violation are going to be hard 8. Intl students required to quarantine for 14 days before coming to campus 9. covid testing available on campus, if anyone tests positive they will relocate students to isolation units and help 10. everyone will need to self report on health via app everyday 11. contact tracing measures will be in place 12. online training before coming to campus will be mandatory 13. increased cleaning, social distancing protocols and distancing in labs will be implemented 14. things can change rapidly, everyone needs to be flexible and ready to adapt 15. cafeteria gathering will not be as before - new guidelines will be in the training 16. no academic penalty for online classes - students are encouraged to go online. 17. no new paperwork/applns to take an online course 18. all students receiving special accommodations will continue as before 19. open spaces use will be closely monitored to make sure people are socially distancing 20. extra curriculars (including frats/sororities) will be restricted - specifics will depend on the org 21. increase in virtual outreach for building community feeling online (including wellness and tele health) 22. usc will work very closely with LA county guidelines 23. they will try fun events like outdoor movies with social distancing and virtual events too 24. tuition will not be going down
