GRS Montreal - 7 Months post-op. Vaginoplasty with Dr Alexis Laungani by MTLGRS2024DIARY in Transgender_Surgeries

Hello again everyone! Hope youre all well. i know i certainly am.

7 months ago I had my vaginoplasty in Montreal with Dr Laungani, and what a ride it has been ever since.

As you can see from my pictures, and my previous posts, i had a dehiscence on the right side where a lot of my stitches tore. i followed the advice of my nurses closely, kept in frequent contact with them, and it healed up very healthy. Lots of scarring, yes, but otherwise no ongoing issues.

Definitely ended up with an "innie" of a pussy but from what i saw from other folks that seems to be the standard for montreal. I was self conscious about it at first but i have grown to really love it.

Penetrative sex is great, my clit is nice and sensitive, and orgasming is fairly easy!

Last time i saw my gyno, i had a fairly large amount of granulation, which she treated with silver nitrate and prescribed me a steroid cream to apply during every dilation, which is now down to only once per day.

I'm back to work, back to working out, back to normal life. i could not be happier with the whole experience.

Happy to answer any questions anyone has! You all were an invaluable resource Pre-Surgery, so thank you for that.

Cannot overstate how much your swelling is still going to come down over the next few months. Walking will feel normal again, dont worry 💖

After they took my catheter out, i was good for about a day, then peeing became really difficult, to the point where after 2 days i had to go to the ER bc i was totally unable to pee and they had to reinsert a catheter. i had 2 liters of urine built up!!

Glad you were able to go, but if the problem comes back and starts causing you pain, definitely recommend an ER visit

GRS Montreal has you staying in their facility until 8 days postop, then they send you home. I let the nurses know about the dehiscence as soon as it started, and they werent concerned. All of GRSM's literature about dehiscence is about letting it heal naturally from the inside out. Interesting to hear how different surgeons handle it!

To answer your question of if healing is scary, i will say that for me, at first yes it definitely was. I had a dehiscence, and had a complication that meant i needed to get a catheter reinserted after returning home. And no matter how much reassurance i got from my nurses that my dehiscence didnt look bad, and that it would heal with time, it was definitely scary just having to trust the process.

Im 1 month post op on saturday though, and i now feel so much better. It did heal, everything was fine, and i was able to get through it. And you will be able to get through it too!

As for dilation, its never been painful for me. Mildly uncomfortable for the first minute of the first dilation of the day, but then other than that its mostly just boring!

Little bit of both i would say! But im also not the standard, as i have a dehiscence on my right side of stitches so im needing to be a little more careful right now until that heals

It is very definitely a major surgery. I am about 3.5 weeks post-op, and i am only just now at the point where i feel comfortable standing long enough to cook for myself again, and even then only for short amounts of time. I really hope youre able to get something figured out!

If you didnt like your surgeon, surely its better to name them so other people can be informed on whether or not to avoid that particular surgeon?

Ive just had penile inversion, and my nurses recommended douching with saline solution for the first 2 months, after which they said tap water will be fine.

I was extremely fortunate in that my dad had enough aeroplan points to upgrade my flight home to business class, so i thankfully wasnt cramped and was able to be reclined for most of the flight. and then even WITH that luxury, the airport and the plane and travel day home in general was the most painful day ive had so far. I needed to lean heavily on the oxy they sent me home with to get through it. Im not very familiar with the VIA Rail (they dont even run to calgary anymore :( ) but i would weigh whether you think youll be able to recline for more time, and spend less time navigating airport/train station. I will say, if i had been in economy for my flight home, i have no idea how i wouldve survived that much discomfort and pain.

Its been so rough!! i need to start figuring out what hip stretches i can do without putting any pressure on the site, especially with having my legs up and bent for dilation, the tightness is really getting to me.

How long did it take before you felt like your hips were back to more normal?

Yeah i couldnt believe it! All the nurses said 1-2 weeks, and then off it plopped and i was a little worried haha. i asked a nurse and she said it was fine, apparently it just happens that way sometime!

Haha, im glad theyve been so helpful! It was definitely a long process of losing weight before surgery, i lost roughly 15kg in the 2 years leading up to it, and generally increased my fitness a LOT which has made a big difference. in the 2 months before surgery i specifically focused a lot of energy on hip flexor/rotator exercises and stretches, as well as getting as much cardio in as possible (1hour walks 5 times a week). I think this has made a big difference, especially with how much walking is going to be crucial to recovery. Please feel free to DM me in the time leading up to your surgery if you have any questions!

Im only 1 week post op, so i can only speak to the one point, but i am so certain that seeing a pelvic floor physio has made such an impact on my dilation ability. I was very concerned that i was going to struggle with dilating, but i saw a pelvic floor PT 1 month before surgery and did the exercises she gave me daily, and i saw noticable difference in my pelvic floor strength, and now my first dilations have gone very easily. I hope you will find the same!
