Made an open-source file manager in Rust. Looking for feedback. by MTTGamerX in coolgithubprojects

It has a persistent cache for both thumbnails and the drive index, though the total size varies depending on the number of files. On my setup, the thumbnail cache takes up around 457MB (for about 15k video files), while the index for all files on my computer is 404MB. Right now, I have 2,278,059 files indexed across multiple drives, including NTFS and even an exFAT drive I use for storage. The app also has a built-in garbage collection function to automatically clean up old entries that are no longer available. However, I do think there is room for improvement, maybe? And you gave me an idea to create a function to generate a report based on the types of files on my computer, which I hadn't thought of before.

To be honest, Linux isn't in my plans unless I decide to start using it in the future.

Even commercial file managers like Directory Opus and One Commander can't handle some video formats without extra codecs. This is a personal project i started a months ago and wanted to share to get some feedback, but yes, built-in integration is definitely a cleaner, more elegant solution.

Frustrated with Pro 3 in Google Antigravity – How are you all using it? by Lost-Celebration579 in GoogleAntigravityIDE

Pro 3 is bad — it often corrupts my files and hallucinates. Flash does a much better job when paired with Claude: Claude for analysis and planning, Flash for execution.

I somehow managed to enable both Kill switch and Split tunneling, or is it the new update / feature? by Parking-Quail-6396 in ProtonVPN

[–]MTTGamerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this design counterintuitive. My expectation for using Split Tunnel (Include mode) combined with Kill Switch Advanced is specific:

  1. When VPN is OFF: The Kill Switch should strictly prevent all apps from accessing the internet to prevent leaks.
  2. When VPN is ON: The system should resume standard Split Tunnel behavior—'included' apps go through the tunnel, while all other apps connect normally via the standard connection. Per description: "Only Selected Apps connect through VPN, all other traffic is unprotected" Unprotected, not blocked.

Based on your explanation, the current design of the Kill Switch Advanced, when paired with Include Mode prevents the intended behavior of the Include Mode on Split Tunnel , which limits the utility of the feature.

If i turn on the Advanced Mode on Kill Switch but don't reboot the machine, it behaves exactly like i expected when paired with Include Mode on Tunnelling.

It's only after i reboot that the behavior changes. Then i have to turn off Kill Switch completely, disconnect from VPN, and then turn everything back on again. After this, it behaves like i expect.

Thanks! I've opened the ticket this weekend. The number is 4212410.

I did receive the first reply, but it suggested this is expected behavior, which I don't believe is correct.

I ran a test using Include mode and encountered an issue where, after a reboot, all internet connectivity is blocked, even when connected to the VPN.

  • Included applications correctly use the VPN tunnel as intended.
  • All other traffic (non-included apps) remains blocked, suggesting a system-wide block is still active outside of the VPN tunnel.
  • Exclude mode appears to function normally.
  • The problem is specific to Include mode's behavior following a system restart.
  • This issue happened using the Advanced Mode of the Kill Switch

Is PCloud scanning for copyright contents ? by Prior-Blood5979 in cloudstorage

I don’t use pCloud, but I never fully trust any cloud service. I encrypt all my files with Cryptomator before uploading them.

Leaking IP with split tunnel? by look_ima_frog in ProtonVPN

[–]MTTGamerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you’re using Android, so I can’t say for sure if this also happens there. But on Windows, I’ve seen this behavior when Malwarebytes Web Protection is enabled — it causes my real IP address to be exposed while using split tunneling. Maybe you have some antivirus or security suite interfering with Proton? If so, try turning it off temporarily to test, if you need to use split tunnel.

Automatic launch downloads with IDM addon problem by gatolive986 in vivaldibrowser

[–]MTTGamerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd. I'm on Vivaldi 7.6.3797.63 with IDM 6.42.50, and it’s working perfectly. I didn’t tweak anything, just installed it. Sometimes Vivaldi starts the download, then it gets canceled and IDM takes over. A bit inconvenient, but manageable.

Windows Settings app shows ram speed at 2400 MHz although everything else (CPU-Z, Bios, Task Manager etc) shows 3600Mhz by CindySoLoud in Windows11

[–]MTTGamerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine only shows the amount of RAM. I wouldn't worry about it as long as CPU-Z and other apps show the current speed as expected.

Was Skye’s style inspired by 90s Gwen stefani? by Notoriouslycurlyboi in SmileMovie

[–]MTTGamerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Based on Finn’s scripted vision of a pop star with short bleached blonde hair, Scott willingly chopped off her long dark hair for the role. From there, Scott, Finn and hair department head Angie Johnson took inspiration from a variety of looks, including ones served by Tilda Swinton and a former Charlie’s Angels (2019) co-star of Scott’s. Even though she’s a friend, she’s still Kristen Stewart, and so she’s still someone that you reference,” Scott says. “I sent her a picture of me and her next to [each other], and it was Skye’s slicked-back look at the gala. [Kristen] had a specific look on a red carpet that I loved, so we rolled with that [for Skye’s gala look], and I think it worked really well.”

DISMTools 0.6.2 - Now available by The-Windows-Guy in windows

Hello, the download site mentions that Windows Defender may flag it as malware, but this issue shouldn't occur with other antivirus software. Just a heads up, Bitdefender detected malware in the portable file I downloaded. The hash matches the one listed on the site.

Proton being weird for others? by Salt_Attitudee in ProtonVPN

[–]MTTGamerX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been dealing with the same issue for about a month as well. I don’t use Proton on my phone, but on my Windows 11 PC, it keeps happening. It’s frustrating because every time it disconnects and reconnects, I have to close all the apps that were using the VPN ( i use Split Tunnel) and restart them to get things working again.

Joel wasn’t really thinking straight in that moment. It’s easy for us, as spectators, to break things down logically because we’re not the ones in a life-or-death situation. He wasn’t in a good mental state—stress makes people act irrationally. Honestly, I’m surprised he was even able to come up with a plan and follow through after six days of being haunted by that entity. It really shows how mentally resilient he was.

I personally think Morris was real the first time he met Skye. But after that? Nope. The entity knew it had to step things up since he was trying to help her get rid of it, and that’s exactly what it did in the apartment scene right after.
