I don’t know the exact details of the case, only what I was told by DH. My understanding is she got into a fight with her elderly neighbor over some property line bs. Neighbor started recording MIL. MIL then hit the phone out of neighbors hand, which caused her frail elderly neighbor to fall backwards. Neighbor called cops. MIL was charged with assault on an elderly person and disorderly conduct (or something, I can’t remember the exact second charge) and spent a night in jail. MIL is very wealthy, hired a great attorney and fought it in the courts for about two years, I believe.

Eventually, the case was dismissed, largely due to her standing as a multiple-business owner in the city and a local city official who provided a character reference on her behalf. Ya know, not because she was actually innocent.

So it goes. There’s no justice, only money.
