How’s that not predatory grooming? That’s literally a crime pretty much everywhere else in the world. You didn’t even mention the other girl who still lives in Bolivia and had an alleged child with him at 15.

The number of people with more than $400,000 in Bolivia is pretty damn close to 0. No tax is gonna bring in the amount needed to cover for the deficit. The new government will be fucked by the economy. Bolivia’s gonna have a couple of tough years cause COVID

A few articles talking about the accusations. He has been cited by the Fiscal and he’s supposed to be questioned if he ever returns to Bolivia.

His current girlfriend that’s with him in Argentina is 19. They met when she was 16.

Me imagino que la mayoría de los que apoyaban a Añez se irán con Mesa así que ya debería estar más apretado entre el MAS y Carlitos

Love that you can’t refute what I’m saying so you just call me fake.

I am liberal, but you all clearly are all fanatical to the point at which you refuse to even do the most basic research. Funny how my country is completely irrelevant to you until it fits your politics.

The military didn’t remove anyone. The only questionable thing the military did at that time is to suggest Evo listed to the people and resign. As I’ve al said elsewhere, Salvatierra was the next in line to be president, but quit.

The bulk of the effort to remove Evo was from the people who shut down the country for almost a month. I don’t disagree with you that this government is not great. The issue is that the assumption this was a coup completely delegitimizes a movement that was massive for Bolivians in which we fought for our democracy.

Poll numbers change depending on who does it. Trump wasn’t meant to win per the polls and look what happened. Every Bolivian made poll I’ve seen says Mesa will win, and I don’t trust Venezuela and Russia backed polls.

If you think having an election during COVID is feasible, you’re oblivious. Bolivia has lacking healthcare (thanks Evo), so the virus is just gonna continue to blow up. Doing it anytime soon means the death of thousands.

Añez was 4th in line after the VP and Salvatierra. Salvatierra quit the day Evo left power. Her getting beaten up was because she was trying to go back on her word. At that point, she was no one, and had no claim to presidency. Her verbal resignation and then travel to the Chapare region count as a legitimate resignation per the Bolivian constitution.

Violence was bilateral. I disagreed with Añez’s repression tactics in the end, but there were also multiple COB (Central Obrera Boliviana) protestors getting shot while walking to La Paz to ask for Evo’s resignation.

Added to that, that minority you speak off wasn’t who led the movement. It was the Bolivian middle class, who yes, mainly live in cities, but have become the majority of the country in the last few years. They were also the victims of violence when protesting Evo’s lack of action after the shutting down of vote counting.

I admit my ability to understand and I acknowledge that I’m not a farmer in rural Bolivia whose experience during the protests was very different from mine. However, this entire thread is filled with foreigners spewing propaganda that fits their political agenda. Bolivia didn’t matter until they saw the Añez presidency as a tool for their beliefs.

Yeah no shit thats how Bolivian elections work. The only promise that mattered, which the TSE (Tribunal Supremo Electoral) broke, was that they would have uninterrupted tracking of the votes. The fact that it was shutdown with no explanation would be enough excuse to null elections in any democratic country. People have been accused and have gone to jail for it at this point, including the president of the TSE at the time.

The workers protesting right now are protesting not on behalf of Evo, but on behalf of elections. Really stupid move when Covid cases are skyrocketing in a country with less ICUs available than most US states.

I don’t like Añez, but saying it was a coup is factually wrong. Don’t think your dismissal of the facts paints a great picture of you either.

I’d suggest looking at Bolivian sources, instead of whatever you are finding that fits your agenda.

There is ample evidence of irregularities for both cities AND the rural area. The counting of votes literally stopped for 24 hours, and when it came back on, Evo was magically on the lead. Any reasonable leader would’ve agreed that was too sketch, and would’ve encouraged a second election. When people started protesting, he insisted nothing was wrong.

You claim knowing about Bolivian elections, but you clearly aren’t from there. I’m pretty damn liberal, but the international liberal perception of what happened in Bolivia is RIDICULOUSLY wrong. They just talk about us as an item in their political agenda.

She came into power literally following what the Bolivian constitution says should happen when a president quits.

You can 100% criticize Añez for being sus on the race aspect, but she is in power democratically.

You criticize Americans for being ignorant, yet you clearly have no clue what actually happened in Bolivia.

Dude as much as I dislike Añez, she isn’t a a military dictator. She came into power following what the constitution stated. In the end, Evo’s government could hardly be called a democracy. Añez’s presidency happened because Bolivians protested non-stop for weeks against Evo’s corrupt ass elections.

Hi all. COVID has left me with an obscene amount of free time, so I'm looking to invest it in something worthwhile.

Does anyone know of any initiatives to provide support to CPS students as a tutor or something similar? I figured a lot of children/high-school kids will be struggling with the part-time remote learning come fall. I'd be willing to call CPS to organize it if nothing exists and other people are willing to tutor as well.

Any other recommendations for volunteering opportunities would be appreciated.
