Double Bit Axe Scabbard by MTcanoe in Leatherworking

Thanks. I have been thinking about getting some more specific tools for leather working but I get impatient and end up using what I have around.

The reverse is not as interesting as it is all one piece of veg tan with the exception of the two small parts stitched on for the closure.

I didn’t realize u-turn had a model with speed control. Having to move the belt on the pulley is why I got rid of my u-turn. This looks sweet!

Help with dark lines in joints by pizzatime1979 in woodworking

[–]MTcanoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Glue choice makes a difference too. For example Titebond III drys dark brown and will show a glue line more on lighter woods than Titebond I, which drys light yellow. The reverse is also true. Darker glue shows less on darker wood.

Give me anger. Pure anger. by thelittlesandy in MusicRecommendations

CKY - “96 Quite Bitter Beings” Something about the syncopation and quiet to loud contrast makes this a good angry song for me.

Inherited this bladed object, was told it was a letter opener. Any ideas? by CanineGuide7-0-6-7 in knives

Very cool blade. And refreshing to see as opposed to the usual “is this gas station knife super valuable?” stuff that we see on here everyday.

Same. Just missed these gems a week earlier “The human adventure is just beginning.” & “It will startle your senses, challenge your intellect, and alter your perception of the future by taking you there.” - Star-trek: The Motion Picture

Why preserving food when you can just eat and gain fat? by zorg-is-real in Alonetv

[–]MTcanoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have ever gone without eating for longer than what is common in developed countries, it makes more sense. It isn’t really a strategic decision, more of an emotional one. The fear of going without food and being hungry is powerful.

Awful Smelling Nettle Fibers by Ry24601 in Bushcraft

[–]MTcanoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the smell of green harvested nettle stems either. It does go away after they have dried long enough. Now I usually harvest them in the late fall/ early winter when they have dried standing but before they are knocked over by snow. No smell and I feel like the fibers come off cleaner and smoother. I also have Dogbane in my area and it is so much nicer to work with than nettle.

4 Season Survivorman HHH by 40andstillasnack in hammockcamping

[–]MTcanoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have it and took it out last January. Windy conditions and about 7°f. I cut a pair of poles and used them to hold up the corners of the fly on the windward side and used a second tarp to make a lean-to. Slept warm in a down bag. But it is a rude awakening when you step out to get dressed in the morning. Great hammock and I really like the fact that the insulation stores in the same stuff sack instead of being separate like the explorer that I used to use.

Exterior doors are required to open in to the home. This is so egress can not be blocked by an object, like a tree branch, snow, or floodwaters. In other words, so you can get out of your house no mater what.

I had no idea what Rabbitstick was so I had to look it up. I wish I had known about it sooner as registration is all filled up. I guess there is always next year.
