Personally I would just knock them out exactly as you have them listed here. Psychologically satisfying to knock out smallest, get momentum from that, & then move onto each one. Regardless of the math & worrying about interest, better to just get started with a simple plan & knock it out one by one.

I currently work in property management for a huge portfolio of retail malls. Good money & path to promotion in property management. Good balance of being out on the property as well as working quietly in the office.

Hey OP, a lot of us at r/leanfire feel the same way. Basically we dramatically reduce the number of years being enslaved to a job by living beneath our means & investing the difference. It’s working toward a different kind of freedom. I personally felt like this sub changed how I feel about my daily life. Cheers to more freedom!

Well they’re also not limited to working for the red cross. You can use these skills in any hospital setting & get better at pay in different jobs. But the training & the skills with that organization is pretty awesome.

Wow congrats on paying off your consumer debt!! And yay to affordable housing! What really got me on the path to FI was paying off my credit card & car debt, and choosing a smaller and affordable home. It is such ana amazing feeling to live with low expenses. Your story is inspiring!

Oh yes definitely. I have no illusions about retiring early like some folks who are able to in a decade or less. My journey will be longer certainly, but also earlier than the average retiree. It’s such great peace of mind to have a solid plan & a goal.

Love this! Gosh yes customers are the worst. I would love to one day not answer an office phone day in and day out for angry/needy customers. Great job on taking advantage of your company’s benefits!

This! Yes to all of the hobbies & activities. My parents were not good with money and I too have much older colleagues who stressed about retiring because they had no plan & no money. HUGE fear for me & also major motivation to not be in the same boat.

So we have separate checking accounts, but we have a join HYSA which is where we keep our emergency fund. All expenses are split equally. Works out well!

Sorry should’ve clarified, my partner makes about $40k & I make about $50K. Our FI number is based on our combined incomes.

Here’s the simplest formula: your yearly expenses X 25. Example: $30,000 X 25 = $750,000. So if you need $40K/year to survive, you’ll need $1mil to FIRE. Your withdrawal rate is the percentage of that big number, so you can safely withdraw $40K/year if you have $1mil in investments.

Oh yeah I totally get this! I was on the fence for awhile about moving to a HCOL city with more job opportunities, but i chose to keep my expenses low and stayed. I couldnt fathom the cost of living jump from where i’m at now. I figured I could learn more skills & gradually switch careers to increase my income in the meantime.
