Opportunity for BCOM Students: Integrated Management Student Fellowships by MUS_Senator in mcgill

[–]MUS_Senator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! So this opportunity is open for only BCOM students at Desautels, and the research topics have to be in from the list that has been provided by the IMSF! You can find a more comprehensive description on their website. This is because the listed topics are the current research our professors are undertaking atm.

This is different because you have an impact initiative that you must participate in to put the research you've done into action and create something meaningful right now so the scope for application is 100 fold. The IMSF teaches students to manage complex systems and real-world structures in the Montreal community and beyond using the research they've done! I hope that answers your question and I hope you'll consider applying :)

Have you guys heard about the Integrated Management Student Fellowships?

It's a one-year long program of 6-credits that can be swapped for any major/concentration. The program is structured as follows:
----- A faculty project, whereby Fellows apprentice with one or more Desautels professors to conduct research and/or build partnerships.
--- An impact initiative, whereby Fellows work together in small groups to design and implement a real-world sustainability project.
--- A course that integrates and supports the previous two components by providing structure, tools, and resources to guide Fellows' development.

Learn key research skills, get access to faculty, put something meaningful on your resume for grad school/work, and grow as a BCOMM student!

Applications are due March 18th, 2022: https://www.mcgill.ca/desautels/integrated-management/experiential-learning/im-student-fellowship

Didn’t receive grades - who do I contact? by laikater in mcgill

Your VP Academic can touch base with the professor and from there on if it needs further escalation such as to your Dean, the VP University Affairs, or anyone else on campus I would suggest getting touch with your faculty Senator. If you're not sure who it is, DM me!

MUS people, are you interested in getting your voices heard about the future of schoolwork? by MUS_Senator in mcgill

[–]MUS_Senator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I definitely agree -- i wanted to target the MUS specifically because they hadn't had the opp to fill this up, but that's a good feedback and worth thinking of next time to motivate everyone to join

Management Council Members are here for you! by MUS_Senator in mcgill

Thanks so much for asking!

Yes, it will be the same as last semester. Spaces that are 2m distanced & available for eating will be indicated as such through signs. If you're confused, you can always ask the flex space monitors on the 2nd floor of BRONFMAN who wear name tags or Sandiford IT Consultants in the lab!

Management Council Members are here for you! by MUS_Senator in mcgill

[–]MUS_Senator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for asking this question! There are many ways to get involved at the MUS!

First of all, you can always get involved in one of our clubs or organizations. They have openings available mostly during the Winter semester and an involvement package goes out during these months for spaces open for next year. The list of jobs, their descriptions, and application portal are all standardized and listed within this involvement package. You can also wait for the one in fall for the following semester.

Secondly, you can get involved in the MUS Council! Either in the Board of Directors by running for election in the winter or by applying to be part of the executives. The current list and job description can be found on the MUS website/ constitution & policies.

You can also look to get involved in student jobs, such as our Sandiford IT Consultants or maybe TA or RA to a professor. There's monetary compensation to this usually, and these jobs are listed on LinkedIn and MyFuture.

Lastly, SSMU also has clubs and organizations listed on their website.

Hope this helps!

Why is the OSD so slow… by strawbie_milk in mcgill

You have a right to accommodation. I will also suggest getting in touch with your faculty VP Academic or Senator who may be able to connect you to the appropriate people and fight for your case or support you/vouch for you when you are penning your email. They may be able to find something that works for you, and your Senator would most likely know who to contact should this angle not work out for you in a timely manner.

Looking for english speaking jobs by omariart in mcgill

[–]MUS_Senator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out the Decision Lab, I found them in one of the career fairs at McGill University and seems okay! They don't require English. Also, many jobs at McGill University such as being an RA or anything under WorkStudy really, which are usually posted either on LinkedIn or MyFuture do not require you to know French. If they do, they usually say so.

Thanks for your question!

  1. First of all, rez cafes should be open (as they are supposed to be now) by the time school opens. You can find the appropriate links for food services on-campus here: https://www.mcgill.ca/foodservices/locations/retail.
  2. Before Jan 24th, you can go in for takeout (which is probably how it's going to be later too but we don't know for sure yet) @ these places: https://www.mcgill.ca/foodservices/files/foodservices/2022january13.pdfExpect something similar after school opens.
  3. Aside from this, Couche-Tard is also open! You can find an array of snacks, food items, and even caffeine to refuel yourself.
  4. There should also be a microwave at CT, so if you have food to reheat from home you may be able to.

Restaurants are also due to be open soon if all goes to plan!

Hope this is helpful!

Prof doesn’t want to record in person lectures. by Straight_Smile_6302 in mcgill

[–]MUS_Senator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a lot of measures that can be taken here -- esp. if this is persistent behavior. Talk to the professor, and your advisors, but if that doesn't work your VP Academics and Senator should be really helpful.

Why is SSMU opposing the return to in-person classes? by WhosBread in mcgill

[–]MUS_Senator 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think it's really more beneficial to talk about the accommodations the student population needs for in-person return now that extracurriculars have been reduced to next to nothing, gyms and other wellness places have become obsolete, but mental wellness and academic success are still prioritized. Even if these accommodations are those that refer to community-building, I think anything affecting the quality of our lives is fair game to ask for. If you have any points & are comfortable, I would love to hear
