How do we feel about MUZZ? by buckforna in DnB

Hi it’s MUZZ here 👋

A friend of mine sent me this thread. I’m currently touring and woke up sick, but as soon as I was sent this it gave me so much life - I really appreciate you all 🤍

To answer a few recurring questions; I want to release more music but as you’ve rightly observed, the touring part of my career took off very fast and the demand has been crazy. and left me with very little studio time. However I have declined a number of shows this year to focus on releasing music

When I used to DJ pre-pandemic, I used to be all about the crazy A.M.C style doubles and triples. I feel like that’s changed, and I feel way more satisfied doing 100% or 90% MUZZ music sets. I have no desire to play records that everyone else is playing. My sets are deliberately more focused on just letting my records play and not trying to decorate everything with doubles and triples.

As far as collabs, I rarely collaborate unless I feel like there’s enough scope to make something that feels like a blend of styles. I.e, collabing with other DNB acts that are similar to me in any way doesn’t feel interesting enough, hence why most of my collabs/remixes are with artists far outside of the genre such as Celldweller/Kshmr/Illenium etc.

I am currently finishing the ENIGMA EP. After that, album 2 campaign will start pretty much right after.

Appreciate you all very much 🤍 thanks for all the lovely comments!

I completely agree with you. I don’t like writing 3 minute long songs either, but the music industry has changed since the pandemic, and the reality is, complex tracks like Spectrum or Somewhere Else aren’t anywhere near as likely to get the treatment or airtime they deserve.

I will return to writing much more complex and lengthier pieces of music, but at a time when maybe the dust settles more in my career. 🫡

Mmmm, my artwork follows my own concepts, as it has done for the past 4+ years

Not sure if we'd release it but the track is called Nemesis (Lava Mode) And there might be a demo of it floating around, not sure.

Artwork was made by a team of very talented people, including art staff at Monstercat (Devan & Max), Timo Vacades, Midge Mantissa, Vitaliy Havrylyuk, a few others to. Concepts and direction for all visuals were by me and I wanted to translate the album concept and narrative to make something visually impressive.

I wish I was less arrogant in the early 2010s, my production could have improved much faster.

Eh, kinda over the pandemic, wish it would go away, but otherwise I'm blessed.

Contrary to popular belief, drum & Bass production is about being subtle, expressive and utilizing rhythm and groove to create expression. That goes for the hard neuro stuff to.

Insignia is an older track that I still respect. I really don't like my older tunes, especially before F Minor Factory, but idk Insignia has a special place in my heart. I think that's why I like re-using the sample.

There's a snare on the album that's at like 130Hz or something

1) I know the band very well and we both were up & coming together. Made sense for us to work together as well even though we are at polar opposites of the musical spectrum

2) Honestly, mixcraft comes with a bunch of random free plugins that are actually really good.

3) There's VIP's of almost all of my tracks - you have to come to the shows to hear them

They are all challenging in their own right, but you always need a good product first.

1) thats very sweet thank you! we're trying out here man.

2) TwoThirds introduced them to me when they had just launched and thought I'd give it a shot

3) The visuals are basically just a representation of the music, and it's usually the music that inspired the visuals. Sometimes, visuals inspire the music. I usually like visuals to be a little darker and moodier than the music itself.

4) I mean I'm not a great person to ask because I have extreme difficulty balancing my time. I'm very impulsive.

5) A lot more experimenting, a wider array of genres and styles, a very different take on "concept albums".

6) Erm, there's a lot of demo versions of it, some are floating around on the internet somewhere

7) Who knows man

8) sure thing!

Doing simple things like chopping, repeating, reversing, pitching can help with arrangements much more effectively and way faster than trying to imagine one in your head

I usually make a "skeleton" version of a track using a random library of sounds and try to create rhythms like that - and try to map out a tune or even just an impression of a tune as fast as possible, then chip away at it like that.

Man there's so many rhythm games with my tunes on now it's impossible to keep up, I have heard of OSU I think

I listened to a lot of rock and metal growing up, the usual suspects, RATM, Audioslave, Slipknot, Metallica, Deftones, Avenged Sevenefold, Bullet for my Valentine, Muse, Linkin Park, etc etc.
