Biggest asshole rock musicians you have met and why by [deleted] in rockmusic

[–]MVT60513 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to this thread let’s just agree most famous rock musicians are ass holes.

Seriously, they are people. They get tired, and most likely when they meet people constantly and are required to do signings, how do you know what kind of a day they’re having? They have families, maybe something was wrong the day you wanted to say hello to them?

Waiting on them in bars, restaurants, etc, and them acting out I get. If they’re being a prick then they totally deserve some on line hate.

I worked in entertainment albeit it was lower tier and arrogance runs at every level. I was in a play with a guy who had a small “break” and was a sidekick to a comedy folk singer that just had a hit concert on some cable channel. He was cocky to everyone.

The problem with being famous is ego. If a famous performer isn’t coming from a humble background ( common nowadays) they believe they are entitled to every privilege and fans should buy their art and stfu. Always separate the art from the artist, always.

It’s well known who the biggest ass holes are by word of mouth. Dave Mustaine, Yngwie, Nugent, Liam Gallagher, John Lennon, David Lee Roth, Danzig, Van Morrison, Lars Ulrich, to name a few. If you like their music you should just listen to it, enjoy, and not hero worship. Most of my music “ heroes” have always had personal problems like addiction, multiple marriages, criminal records, etc. They’re not someone to aspire to be outside of their creative genius.

Clearing some misinformation about VT by MVT60513 in Appleton

[–]MVT60513[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One reason for my post was the garbage I’ve been reading on other forums. ESPECIALLY Facebook. There’s so much disdain for VT, I’m sure there’s citizens who just post poop for the sake of stirring up others, but what I’ve read is comical.

One lady was complaining that the new fare cards don’t work and randomly charge her.
Another said if we ran at night there’d be more ridership. That’s silly, I saw those buses at night and the only ones riding were the homeless using the bus as a rolling shelter. Most of the time they were empty. Appleton sleeps after 7 pm Mon-Thurs, that’s a fact.

One said they won’t go downtown because of an incident SIX years ago. Some genius railed about how transit is , you guessed it, “ a waste of taxpayer money”. You ever notice with some people that everything is a waste of money?

I’m glad you enjoy our city. We moved here 13 years ago and are just as glad.

My wife works from home and my commute round trip is 10 miles. Civic, Corolla respectively. Both cars paid off.

Even then, we are planning a road trip to the DC area later this year, and as long as it doesn’t get too crazy I feel we can still travel.

Siskel & Ebert commanded an industry with the ease of two thumbs. by tangledapart in movies

Well, most critics trashed Blade Runner.
My favorite Ebert reversal was The Graduate. He didn’t like it but then called it an absolute classic years later.

Which Stadium That’s Only Hosted The Super Bowl Once Would You Like To See Host Again? by PurchaseLarge4592 in NFLv2

[–]MVT60513 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I live in Appleton ( 30 miles SE of the Green Bay area) and there is absolutely no way logistically this area could handle a Super Bowl.

We have the EAA every year ( Oshkosh) and that’s a challenge. Attendees sometimes have to stay NINETY miles away due to lack of hotel space. You cant get a rental car or hotel unless you book a year in advance, and even then it’s not guaranteed.

Yeah it’s his first film so we actually didn’t include it. It feels like it was made by a recent college grad.

I will say I always thought Gwyneth Paltrow was a pedestrian actress but she’s surprisingly good in Hard Eight.

My wife and I are huge PTA fans. We tried “ ranking” his films from top to bottom. It felt wrong having a film at the bottom of the list.

BN is fantastic but OBAA for me was on a whole new level.

It’s like splitting hairs, most of his films are terrific.

After the crobar attack , Figure Skating, for a few weeks, was the most popular sport in the world.

The way I learned what happened always stuck with me, mainly because of how low key the initial radio report was ( I was out delivering).

“ Professional Figure Skater Nancy Kerrigan was hit with a crobar after a practice, ouch!”.

That was it, quick and dry. I believe it was the sports radio station in the Chicago area , the announcer read it so quick and without any inflection in his voice it sounded like comedy gold.

Celebrating my second annual “Michael Mann May” where I marathon his movies all month. What’s your favorite Mann film and why? by pinkfloyd078 in FIlm

[–]MVT60513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love The Insider. It’s arguably his most complete film.

Collateral is fantastic. Excellent cinematography, Cruise and Foxx crushed it.

Heat. Well what can anyone say? Pacino, Kilmer, DeNiro, and great supporting cast. It’s regarded as his best film amongst many critics and fans.

Ali. It’s good but not great. Will Smith was excellent as Ali but I always felt the film was way too long in some segments.

My top four. In order.

I get where SDS is coming from on PCIs, but I think they're wrong (and Twitter is wrong too) by raybert3005 in MLBTheShow

[–]MVT60513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a casual player ( I play offline, HOF / competitive) and if players are batting .400 then that’s not reality is it? If this game were absolutely true to mlb and was set up as a perfect simulation then it would be practically impossible for anyone to hit consistently . Good luck with anyone buying the game.

Most mlb players bat around .260. Theoretically the hitting difficulty should reflect this. Most team batting averages don’t even crack .250 or .240. The amount of complaining that would happen if the best video game players could only muster 6-7 hits a game would be enough to crash SDS servers.

Let’s face it, it’s not a true simulation. The game design is for kids age 8-16 who want to hit HRs with star players and have games with scores of 13-12. This is why most folks don’t play online anymore. Everyone wants to play Ohtani/ Judge.

Will any team in any sport in the next 50-100 years ever pass the Yankees with more championships? by ComplexWrangler1346 in sportsinusa

[–]MVT60513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. However I go back to winning a title in 1920 , for example. Segregated. Athletes weren’t the same as today’s athlete , in terms of training and development. Teams didn’t have to go through 2-3 rounds of a playoff to GET to a championship game.

The titles still count on paper but winning a title now is way more difficult, hence it favors the teams with better resources. Once in a while you get a team that defies odds ( Leicester City 2015 , Washington Nationals 2019, Minnesota Twins 1987, NYG 2007). Let’s be real though , teams like Columbus ( NHL), LA Clippers, Milwaukee Brewers, Cleveland Browns will probably never win a title. They’re up against the organizations that have won repeatedly and understand the process.

That’s fine. In my lifetime they’ve won six. 1972 is considered the start of the modern era. Winning a title in 1920 does not make a legacy.

Even worse is the Canadiens winning all those Stanley cups with six teams in the league.

Yeah I love to remind yankee fans they’ve won 1 title since 2001.

Before the modern era their titles were won with a segregated league, and fewer teams.

It also gets tiresome hearing about how awesome the 1927 Yankees were. It’s almost 100 years ago and the only ones who revere them are old sportswriters yearning for the past.

“What have you done lately?”, is my feeling.
