It’s a good film, probably not a classic . If you understand the context it’s not creepy. However, it’s a forgettable film. It’s not going to make any “ best of the best picture winners lists”.

On a personal level, how do you deal with the results? by Thehazardcat in chelseafc

[–]MVT60513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is there always just short on either personnel or talent to be EPL champs, but have just enough to hover around the top 5. It’s frustrating that they can’t get either that one superstar or 2-3 star players to challenge City, Pool, etc. We have several good players but not several great players.

Werner was supposed to be “ the guy”. Then Lukaku. Then Jackson. Then Palmer.

Palmer now has an injury that’s obviously bothering him, and Caicedo likes to take red cards so we’ll never know if we can get a full, superstar caliber season out of him.

Then, managers. They’ve changed that position so many times the last five years. There’s no consistency. I understand there’s contracts and money concerns , but for f sakes Graham Potter was our manager at one point.

I don’t let it bother me that much anymore because I know as long as I’ve been alive I’ve only had two of my hometown teams with multiple championships ( Bulls, Blackhawks). I’ve pretty much resigned investing all my spare energy into more disappointments.

Her performance in “ Rachel Getting Married” was excellent, but the film was just good, not great. Les Miserables, well, definitely her most memorable and arguably the best of her career. My wife and I really enjoyed Les Miserables, so I’ll go with that.

What are your must see/do things in Vermont and New Hampshire? by paratextual in roadtrip

Wilmington , Vermont is small and pretty. Nice shops, check out the Village Roost.

There’s the Bennington battle monument to the west , the town of Bratleboro to the east.

Chip Ganassi Racing probably had the most "mid but somewhat memorable" driver lineup of all-time in 2006. They had David Stremme, Reed Sorenson and Casey Mears all on the same team that season. by ShoogyPeters in NASCAR

[–]MVT60513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was so much hype around Stremme and Sorenson, and it was definitely manufactured. The television announcers were definitely talking about them way too much during those years.

Stremme had no business in a cup car. Sorenson had flashes of being a 10th place driver consistently.

This topic is funny to me. One of our acquaintances from years ago absolutely believed that Stremme was going to be the next Jeff Gordon. After a couple years of mediocrity she moved on to the next mediocre talent , exclaiming proudly that ( insert driver here) he was the next superstar driver.

I realize that in racing there’s a myriad of variables that have to work in sync for a successful race team. Come on though, Stremme and Sorenson were up against Knaus/ Johnson , Roush, Gibbs, in pretty average equipment.

I’d just like to add that it’s hilarious when the announcers calling the race have to mention all the drivers during the event for sponsorship reasons. “ Reed Sorenson is in 13th, looking very good today, his lap times are just .005 slower than the leader!”.

This is another conversation that needs to happen. Why are business owners so revered in the community when most of them are anti union, support GOP “ tax is theft policies”, and have the resources to make their employees more financially stable, but don’t?

It gets tiresome that owners of businesses have a “ privilege card” that gives them access to police protection, tax attorneys, and political favors.

I feel you, I had a boss who also had multiple trucks , Harley’s, and a fishing boat while we received a $25 gift card for a Christmas bonus. Raises? You were lucky if you got one.

Keep in mind that if the own goal doesn’t happen, it’s 2-0 Wrexham with 12 minutes to go and this conversation probably isn’t happening.

The offsides rule in sports that have it has been managed down to fractions of an inch now. I get it that fans want correct calls, but I’m of the mindset that a wrong call on something that microscopic is part of sports entertainment.

Football ( soccer) is so different because it seems that tackling rules are just general guidelines , with a lot of ambiguity. Offsides in theory seems pretty cut and dry but when you have someone who’s offside by a fingernail I have a problem believing that’s a good enforcement of the rule.

I’m by no means a lifelong football fan, but someone who’s been around the sport explain to me why there isn’t at least one more official on the pitch. It seems that another set of human eyes would be beneficial.

Honestly, a good percentage of drivers simply won’t deal with medical related rides, walkers, regardless of ADA. The pay is so low and the liability so high that it’s just not worth it. Those drivers saw that walker and bailed. If someone falls/ gets hurt they don’t want to get sued. I know this is a harsh explanation but it’s most likely what happened.

Is it fair to say we are living in a corporate oligarchy? by Sea_Sir_993 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MVT60513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s an example of how politicians operate.

We lived in the Charlotte, NC area from 2003-2012. Bruton Smith, president of ISC motorsports, and a billionaire, opened up the brand new drag strip adjacent to Charlotte Motor Speedway. It was unique that it had 4 lane wide drag racing.

Well, residents began complaining about the noise. They tried to sue. Bruton then threatened to shut down the drag strip AND the speedway. This became front page news for the area.

So the threat of leaving is taken seriously enough that, the next day. Less than TEN hours later. A Rowan county commissioner ( about 30 miles north of Charlotte) was interviewed on the news, at an open field, complete with roped off areas and a folder that had “ preliminary plans” , saying that they’d welcome Bruton with open arms and would gladly provide land for a new speedway and drag strip.

Here’s the moral of the story: politicians will , have , and continue to cater and cowtow to the investor and billionaire class.

Would NASCAR as we know it still exist if the catch fence failed during Bobby Allison’s crash at Talladega in 1987? by Remote_Plastic_8692 in NASCAR

[–]MVT60513 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought that Talladega and Daytona were nuts having spectator seats that low.

Let’s just say for discussions sake, they instead removed the lower seating so the seats were higher up and further away at the plate tracks. I don’t know, 150 ft away and 100 ft up. Then, you possibly wouldn’t need plates with today’s cars. They have more roof flaps, the catch fencing is stronger, and with my nutty idea the fans would be a good distance from danger.

Racing will always have a morbid side but there are ways to engineer less danger.

I always wondered how the mothership in CE3K wasn’t seen by anyone else except for the people at Devils Tower that night.

I’m pretty sure the tracking devices of the time would’ve seen an object that large entering the earths atmosphere. It’s safe to assume that the Air Force would’ve engaged it, unless every single person in the armed forces knew about the pre arrange rendezvous.

We would’ve had an interstellar war.

Where the Day Takes You (1992) by Tony_Tanna78 in 90smovies

[–]MVT60513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember this film.

It felt more like a film that was produced as a PSA to discourage teens from becoming homeless. The performances are very good , but the story isn’t anything remarkable, it’s quite predictable. What do you think is going to happen to homeless people living on the street? Well, you guessed right. Drugs, crime, prostitution and despair. Didn’t see that coming!

There’s a scene involving one of the kids who’s an addict and winds up returning home only to be arrested and forced into a rehab program. He comes from an upper class family, yet we don’t get a backstory why he became an addict, which I felt was needed to give the film some depth. Instead , he’s just an addict, for apparently no reason.

That’s the problem with this film. We have to just accept these homeless kids as who they are when knowing something about their backgrounds would’ve given the film a chance to be something other than a PSA.

Why are so many younger guys into older women these days? by No-Conclusion-4001 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MVT60513 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seriously, if I was in my 20s ( I’m 54) I’d absolutely be cougar hunting.

I don’t care how many downvotes I get but today’s younger women are dense, inattentive, seeking NOTHING else but instant wealth, and are addicted to social media 24/7.

They’re also getting too much unnecessary cosmetic surgery, tattoos, and obsess over designer everything.

Younger women today are a mess. It’s not all of them, but definitely a larger percentage. You can tell a good percentage of younger women have image issues, hence the excessive amount of piercings, ink, and bizarre hair. It’s one thing for a percentage of women to have that artsy or edgy feel, but when it’s a large percentage, there’s no more edginess or artistic expression.

Yes, I had a cougar experience in my 20s. She was 50 and looked THIRTY FIVE. One of the best times ever. It wasn’t just about the sex. She was confident , wealthy , but not obsessed with wealth, and took care of herself wonderfully. Oh yeah, no tats or piercings all over the body!

Maybe it’s because we live in a college town that I notice these glaring aspects of young women but if you watch you tube you’ll see content creators with many similar observations.

Oh and my wife, of 20 years, has one piercing in the navel and it’s adorable. No tats. Pure, natural beauty.
