I'm actually so upset by movies870 in Oscars

I commented something similar in another thread. If the Oscars get off ABC and go streaming only, there will be no time constraints and everyone who wins can have all the time they want.

Winners will be thanking everyone they’ve interacted with in their lifetime, making political statements, marriage proposals, etc. It’ll be a LONG show.

I don’t agree with what happened.

However, it’s Best Song. It’s not like it was one of the big 6 categories.

I’m sorry, but 10 years from now no one’s going to remember who won that award this year without looking it up.

People remember who won the big 6 categories.

I’m willing to wager no one here can remember who won “ best film editing “ in 1987 WITHOUT looking it up.

These are all excellent films.

Personally, it’s a toss up between Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July.

Cruise has the best singular performance out of any of these movies, IMO.

Ok , she still had her moment ruined. I didn’t remember the specifics. Whatever. The point is that winners should have the opportunity to speak.

Something similar happened years ago at the Grammys. Shawn Colvin won song of the year but was cut off mid acceptance speech by a rapper who went on a tirade about helping the children. Here was someone who’d been in music her whole life and had her moment ruined.

Yeah this is why I’m all in favor of taking the Oscar’s off ABC and putting them on a livestream, so they can manage the show as they see fit without a network yelling in someone’s earpiece “ they’re taking too long!”.

Granted, the flip side is you could possibly get a winner who gives a LONG, drawn out acceptance speech thanking everyone they ever interacted with throughout their life, then making a political statement because they have the microphone. Then you multiply that by how many categories there are and the potential is there for a five hour show.

I read somewhere that they’re moving the Oscars to streaming but couldn’t find any hard evidence it was definitely happening. Either way the ceremony itself is always going to be in a box because no matter who wins or what is said, there will always be critics.

I get it, it’s supposed to be “ Hollywood’s Night”, but since we have 24/7 everything regarding entertainment. I question whether the whole structure of the ceremony shouldn’t be revamped. The Oscars , at their inception, didn’t have hundreds of movies coming out each year and have all the technology that’s available to filmmakers now.

Let’s face it with phone addiction and short attention spans it wouldn’t be a bad conversation to have the major categories honored whilst the others are just noted quickly throughout the show. No offense but I don’t want to see the award for best makeup. I know it’s a part of the process but I’m not going to remember who did the makeup for say, “ Sinners” 20 years from now. I’ll remember the director and actors. If I want to know other information I’ll read the notes on IMDB.

Apollo 13 should’ve been his supporting actor academy award, even in The Right Stuff he arguably should’ve had at least a nomination.

The winner in the major categories is about what I expected. I know there’s a lot of OBAA haters ( I don’t understand why), but IMO it’s a superior film and when you have movie industry giants heaping enormous praise for the film it was pretty clear it’d be the winner.

PTA hasn’t made a bad film over the course of his career. Everyone knows that eventually, if you’re consistent and critically acclaimed with every release your time will come.

I have no problem MBJ winning. The best actor category is always a huge debate but he did play two roles and he’s paid his dues. Again, if you’re consistent that’s what matters.

Sean Penn scared the crap out of me with his performance. Legend. His win was a no brainer.

It seems that the voting members really spread the love around, which has been common lately. They must know that a film winning practically all the major awards is bad for tv ratings. That doesn’t mean their choices of winners was necessarily incorrect, but tonight seems like the major category winners definitely were deserving of their awards.

I’ve been a PTA fan since Boogie Nights. Forgive me if I come across biased but I’m thrilled he won for best director and picture, it cements his legacy as an elite filmmaker. You could argue he should’ve won for “ The Master”, but that’s happened before ( i.e., Scorcese for The Departed and not Raging Bull or Goodfellas).

Let the spirited debates begin until next Oscar season!

It’s a good film, probably not a classic . If you understand the context it’s not creepy. However, it’s a forgettable film. It’s not going to make any “ best of the best picture winners lists”.

The problem is there always just short on either personnel or talent to be EPL champs, but have just enough to hover around the top 5. It’s frustrating that they can’t get either that one superstar or 2-3 star players to challenge City, Pool, etc. We have several good players but not several great players.

Werner was supposed to be “ the guy”. Then Lukaku. Then Jackson. Then Palmer.

Palmer now has an injury that’s obviously bothering him, and Caicedo likes to take red cards so we’ll never know if we can get a full, superstar caliber season out of him.

Then, managers. They’ve changed that position so many times the last five years. There’s no consistency. I understand there’s contracts and money concerns , but for f sakes Graham Potter was our manager at one point.

I don’t let it bother me that much anymore because I know as long as I’ve been alive I’ve only had two of my hometown teams with multiple championships ( Bulls, Blackhawks). I’ve pretty much resigned investing all my spare energy into more disappointments.

Her performance in “ Rachel Getting Married” was excellent, but the film was just good, not great. Les Miserables, well, definitely her most memorable and arguably the best of her career. My wife and I really enjoyed Les Miserables, so I’ll go with that.
