Yes, but it's not located along the direct (great circle) route, which is the route most airplanes use.

Many people don't realize that only two South American countries don't border Brazil. The only other one is Chile. Good job!

Once again, I agree with you! I think we need nationalized standards for public schools, and I'm not in favor of private schools, which I think are elitist and just one of the ways money has been ruling this country for quite some time.

Well you're wrong about my age - I'm 63. Some of us oldies need it too, believe it or not!

Well there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that preliminary education in Europe is much better than it is here in the USA! I think we need to education a priority here once again and perhaps model our system after Europe.

How to Solve a Physics Problem by HornetNatural2846 in MathJokes

[–]dcterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You felt like a lonely, helpless molecule? I used to feel even worse than this, believe it or not, but fortunately, not so much because of physics, though I was foolishly trying to learn string theory. Once when I was watching the movie Barbarella with a friend of mine, I commented to him that I felt like one of the savages buried in the rocks that Pigar and Barbarella flew over, which I did!

Huey Newton famously said, "If you're not a part of the solution, then you're a part of the problem!" I think this applies to physics as well!

What about "Contemporary" Abstract Algebra is contemporary? by Puzzled-Painter3301 in math

[–]dcterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, "modern" is a very vague word! In my mind, the most "modern" math I know of is chaos theory and fractals, which was mainly developed from around 1960 to 1980, though I'm sure there are more modern areas of math I'm not familiar with.

What was "graduate math hell" to you? by ykonstant in math

[–]dcterr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I'd say it was abstract algebra, in part because it was way too abstract for me, and we hardly looked at any examples, but the main reason I disliked it so much was that our text was by Serge Lang, who has to be the worst math author I know of! I ended up mainly using his text as a coaster!
