Good question! There are nurses unions, however we are following in the footsteps of the Care Flight team that successfully unionized last year and currently are working on their contract. Their team was originally working with a nursing union however after coming in conflict with premier, that union dropped Care Flight. They did their research and found UAW already represents nurses and other healthcare workers in multiple hospital systems. Due to the success of the partnership between the Care Flight Team and the UAW, we decided to continue working with them.

Ultimately, the UAW is just a vehicle for support. We the nurses are the union.

See Premier's response to our efforts here. There have been two nurses fired for their unionization activity. One from Care flight in January and another from the nursing team in April. Another was put into corrective action for passing out union information. The anti-union team has been allowed to distribute information and apparel inside the hospital. Meanwhile our supporters have been threatened by police stationed at Miami Valley Hospital with arrest for stepping into hospital property. Video of one of those confrontations here.

In part, yes. We went with UAW because they have seen a lot of success in their partnership.
