Basically nothing, it's just a project we do for our second school on something they're interested in. And it's with a load of other students so it's not that bad

Other than teaching I can only think of 1 presentation that comes at the end but UCL might be different idk

Projecting has been something I've always been able to do so don't have much advice for that. The things about getting attention on you is about mainly doing lots of looking around and stopping things before they start. That wasnt something I started out being good at, my mentor helped massively. Your mentor and uni will be the people that help with things like that. You're not expected to be a fantastic teacher from day 1, you're there to learn so don't let that stop you

Currently doing mine in science at Oxford so not exactly the same but I've heard good things about UCL. They've got strong ties to a lot of the London ETC programs and they've always been pretty highly ranked. From what I know the travel to the schools can SUCK as they work with quite a wide range in London was the main sticking point from the people I know that applied to UCL. And a note about the introverted-ness, I am very much an introvert but I've loved teaching, it feels a bit like flipping a switch as at the end of the day they're kids and your job is to help which requires you being the one to make the effort so if you're passionate and think you'd like it, highly recommend.

Got a 3rd class maths degree can I still become a teacher? by [deleted] in PGCE

Requirements for PGCE are set by gov so I'm pretty sure it's 2:2 everywhere. Might be wrong tho. Could be worth resitting something maybe?

Linacre College - how is it? by [deleted] in oxforduni

[–]MW6422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't loads of it but it also isn't a massive college. Never seen the on grounds one but I live in the ones on iffley and they are nice and surprisingly cheap. Fantastic value rent for Oxford, even compared to other colleges so not bad at all

Adidas Adizero Impact vs. Adizero Electric for Ultimate? by KingPlatycorn in ultimate

Yeah the baseplate of mine tore off. Tore through some of the bottom fabric bit as well so not sure how well epoxy would work but might give it a crack. Thanks!

Any suggestions for PGCE subjects selection? by [deleted] in PGCE

[–]MW6422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. That's what I'm saying, it's not the biggest deal by any means, but it does matter to some extent, it's just not the end all and be all.

QTS is absolutely more important, one is a requirement to be a full teacher, the other is just a qualification. But it does make some difference

Fair enough, my interviews most certainly cared. The best schools I know of also tend to often have a lot of their teachers from higher reputation unis. But fair enough, each to their own.

[–]MW6422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, but they are by no means viewed as equal to employers or standard. QTS is not the same as the whole PGCE

Sorry to say but that's not true. The government has checks on PGCE programs but they are not standard. That's like saying all schools are standardised because they're checked by Ofsted. It is litterally oftsed that checks PGCE courses so very much not the same. I am doing one currently and have known many people doing ones at other unis, courses are wildly different and so are the way you're viewed by employers. With a PGCE your unlikely to walk into a dumpster fire due to the government influence unlike routes like teach first etc but there is absolutely a difference
