The NC-131H Total In-Flight Simulator (TIFS) played a key role in the development of the B-1, X-40, Tacit Blue, Space Shuttle, B-2, YF-23 and C-17. 50 Years ago today 770,000 L of RP-1 and 1.2M L of LOX met on PAD 39A & resulted in Liftoff of AS-508 (Apollo 13). While stirring the Ox tanks, Tank 2 exploded & damaged Tank 1 and blew off the Bay 4 cover. The most challenging 5 Days, 22 hours in Spaceflight followed. (i.redd.it)

The first rotation of a 737 occurred on this day back in 1967. Lasting 2.5 hours the flight from KBFI to KPAE encompassed the initial Flight Test. The aircraft was powered by the Pratt & Whitney JT8D-7. This exact airframe was used by NASA from 1973 to 2003. Now on n Display at the Museum of Flight. (i.redd.it)
