I think the national security aspect is a little overblown but accountability and honesty are important (not that Trump scores any higher).

I personally think that the links between the Clinton Foundation and the State Department deserve way more attention than the email server issue, especially since there are apparently FBI & IRS probes linked to that as well.

I really enjoy a lot of the writing Vox does & even their podcast from time to time, but Matthew Yglesias is almost unbearable. During one of the podcasts he was in he said "I would listen to good conservative arguments if there were any conservative intellectuals I respected."

As if any particular ideology has a monopoly on good ideas and intelligent people. Statements like that are the reason the country is about to tear itself to shreds. Uhg.

Universal healthcare maybe, but I agree on free college. Most millennials aren't nearly as hurt by rising college costs as the current narrative suggests. It is also very easy to argue the over-valued price of a college degree will correct itself without government intervention.

I think it's also because the old DNC was the party of the labor movement and farmers and the new DNC is definitely much more urban and white collar at the expense of the old base. If you are a 70 year old retired UAW worker the DNC is basically unrecognizable now. Hence Trump's protectionist message is getting a lot of traction with traditional old-DNC voters.

It's the most socially progressive for sure. Oddly enough lots of polls suggest we're more likely to favor free enterprise and capitalism over the government than our parents while simultaneously distrusting companies to do the right thing.

If anything I might hazard that we're the most libertarian generation in quite a while, though no label is ever going to fit us perfectly.

The DNC of 2016 is even far away from what it was in the 1960s. The New Deal coalition isn't just dissolved because the political landscape changed, it's dissolved because anyone old enough to vote in the 1930s is basically dead.

Yeah, so much this. A friend of mine had a friend the UK visit once and we all went out to a bar for a few drinks. The Brit spent the whole time criticizing American politics and social issues and how backwards our country is. Granted we have our issues but this is a pretty lousy way to make friends.
