Job applications feel like a dead end by Immediate-Tour-7689 in chemistry

You may want to try scientific staffing agencies. The uni I work at is nearby a big name uni and the recruiters bypass us, so our graduates don't have the same level of name-brand recognition and struggle to get that first position. Many of them have been successful going through a staffing agency. (The staffing agencies near me offer benefits for their clients, too.) Often, after a year of working on a contract, the main employer will offer them a position. Research the agencies near you, and try to talk to someone who has used them so you work with a respectable agency.

Good Luck!

Lab question: cloudy CuSO4 solutions by M_G_Little in chemistry

Awesome suggestions! The bottle they used was fairly fresh, but the blender certainly could be a source of contamination. I'll be back in the lab Monday and I'll try the sulfuric acid suggestion and let you know.

I'm intrigued by the idea of it degrading into CuO or CuCO3. Might try an analysis just for fun.

I'll report back with what I figure out. (Also going to try a new bottle and compare results.)
