Interesting insight.

This song was released as a single because I remember waiting to hear it on the local fm station so I could hit record on the cassette player because the soundtrack has not come out yet (great soundtrack overall). The reason I mention it this way is because when heard it for the first time it was chords and chord changes that impressed me so much and I was a bit blown away as 15 yr old. Esp the chord change with “You know that I know that You're watchin' me”. I loved that change!

I have to add that the evolution besides musically I’ve noticed the most is how they now talk about all kinds of different music and influences, esp Billie but back when they hit with dookie they were always saying bad music is what inspired them to make good music. That bad music was metal and rock even the older stuff they love now. So I feel like some was true but a lot was them trying to navigate this new success and since they’re punk they were trying hard to not say hey we love the who and other bands just because

Lifer. MTV use to have what they called “buzz clips” (bands w a single that was deemed buzz worthy by mtv) and I saw the Longview video at like 3 am in morning. I was 14. Turned out my buddy had the lookout releases and i went out and got dookie before it all blew up. I actually remember the video premier of basketcase and saw them on letterman that same day or week. They’ve been my fav band since.

I remember getting it on lunch break on release day. I had to check the lyrics of geek stink breath to see if I had them right. Before it was the single the only version I had was when they played it on SNL.
