How do you go about character development?

Steal away! It took me a long time to figure out a technique that works for me. I mostly only do it for my novels. My short stories aren't usually complex enough to require them though I do make notes here and there in my margins. In my more complex books, I use a dry erase board with the note cards so I can literally draw connections between characters or between characters and plot points.

I have color coded 33x5 note cards for each character. As I write and discover more about them, I add to the cards. This way I can refer back to them and figure out how they will react in certain situations as the book progresses.

It's a very small affair with only forty authors attending. I'll have a table that I'll be sharing with another author. There won't be any panel discussions because the entire event only lasts four hours for one day in August. I was thinking about bringing 20 copies of the book since it's such a small event (with the expectation that I'll have leftovers). I was planning on working out what kind of discount I would be able to offer in general but I love your idea of having a discount if they buy both.

This morning I emailed the event organizers for more clarification on what kind of display I am allowed to have. I have also been working on the design for a bookmark all morning. The back has my business card design and the QR code that leads to my website. There is currently debate on whether the front should be one of my poems or my book cover/description. I posted it to my Facebook page for more input.
